So this year as part of everyone's Christmas gift they are getting a luggage tag. The best part about it is that is can double as the gift tag on the outside of the wrapping! Here are the ones I finished tonight...
They are super easy and quick to make. I am planning on cutting some index cards to fit under the plastic. On the unlined side I am drawing decorated initials and then they can fill in their address info on the lined side.

I noticed after I had finished uploading my pictures that a few are missing but hopefully you will get the idea...Also, I sandwich my plastic and then turn it but you can also skip that and just add the plastic when you are top stitching. I just think that it looks more professional if you can't see the edges of the plastic.
The supplies you will need are:
10.5" x 3.5" piece of fabric for tag
2" x 10.5" fabric for strap
10" x 3" piece of Craft Fuse or medium to heavy weight interfacing
3" x 4" clear plastic
First, iron the interfacing onto wrong side of fabric:
Next, fold strap piece in half longways wrong sides together and press:
Open the fold you just made and turn each side in to the middle crease:
Re-fold down the middle crease so all raw edges are inside
Cut your 10.5" x 3.5" piece in half so you have 2 pieces 5.25" x 3.5". (You can always start out with 2 separate pieces but I hate cutting 2 separate pieces of interfacing.)
Next, sandwich your clear plastic between the right sides of the fabric and sew around 3 sides leaving the opening at one of the short ends:
Clip your corners to make turning easier:
And turn (be gentle, the plastic tends to stick together):
Press well making sure the plastic side is down!
Top stitch strap on both sides:
Fold raw edges in at top of tag and insert strap.
Topstitch all the way around making sure to catch the strap and close the opening. It is also a good idea to backstitch where the strap is attached to reinforce it. I recommend either using a teflon foot or covering the plastic with tissue paper before sewing. Otherwise, sewing the plastic can drive you nuts - it sticks to everything!!
Clean up your stray threads, cut an index card to fit inside and you are done!
