I really want to knit some cute amigurumi animals for my friends for Christmas, but I only ever see crocheted things. Any suggestions?

Check out Crafty Alien's patterns (in Completed projects section) she sells the patterns in sets at her shop for $5 or search for fruit (can't remember the username peach-something...?).  I don't know if those are free or for sale somewhere.

I don't know about animals so much in particular, but there are some links for foods listed below, but you could add some cute eyes or faces to make them more Amigurumi.

http://www.craftbits.com/viewCategory.do?categoryID=NED (search thru the list, half way is where they begin--but they are kind of mixed around in there).
