Hi! Anyone up for another round of Holiday Cookie/Candy Swapping? Round 1 was held WAY back in 2005. I think we are due to swap some deliciously yummy cookies!

Round 1 link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=62657.0

This would be a US only swap, since I don't think a lot of countries allow perishable food items to come in through customs.

Does anyone want to do just cookies or we can mix it up and say cookies/candies too???

I would want to have this swap run signups around the end of October/beginning of November with sendouts right after Thanksgiving/first week of December.

Participants could also have the option of maving multiple partners!

So, who's interested!!

I was beginning to think everyone disliked candies and cookies!!!

I used to have a large group of friends that lived near me and we would swap cookies/candies every year and then I moved away and have not been able to find another group of people willing to swap sweets at christmas.

Ditto! My mom used to do a huge one - 12 dozen cookies every year, and she'd come home with twelve different dozens. It was so much fun!

I haven't found anyone near me who likes to bake and do stuff like this. Thank goodness for craftster!  Wink

*bump*

I dont want this to get lost in the pages and pages of new swap theme ideas...

I would want signups to be around the 1st week in november with sendouts the last week in november or the 1st week in dec. we wouldnt need a long "crafting" time because I would hope that everyone bakes/makes their cookies/candies close to the sendout date so thta nothing goes stale.

like I said this is USA only so the packages can get there quickly and we dont give customs a heart attack. Smiley

I would def. be interested.  I like the idea of including candy.  I make yummy almond roca.     I also think it would be great to exchange recipes too.  New recipes are always fun!

We could do this like an old-fashioned cookie swap - you know, bake 12 dozen, give one to each person and get one from each person back.

That might be kind of fun, but might increase the risk of flakage (and I'm not talking about the pastry kind).

I would love to be in and I think that you should include recipes of an item or two that you send.... so the recipient can make some for others.  EITHER WAY count me in!!

how exactly do you send baked goods, so that they actually arrive in a yummy condition? (without smushing/cookies breaking/chocolates melting?)

jw, I've never sent food, other than store bought, store wrapped goodies Wink

I used to send cookies to my BFF when she went away to college. i would wrap each one in platic wrap and then wrap all of them in bubble wrap and place in a tin. they always made it to her safely and in tact. I am sure if you google "shipping cookies"  or "mailing cookies" you will get a bunch more info.

I know Walgreen's has some super cute cookie tins right now! They're easing them in with the Christmas stuff. There are a couple of different patterns in 4 or 5 different shapes/sizes. Grin

I am glad to see that there are a handful of people interested.

I would prefer to have this swap run signups around the beginning/middle of November with sendouts first week of December. Since this is USA only, we should all have our baked goodies arrive in a reasonable amount of time. Smiley

anyone else have any thoughts on time frames?

do you want to have the option to have multiple partners?

any thoughts on how many "dozens/sets" of baked goodies to send out to your partner(s)?

Timeframe sounds good to me  Cheesy

I've sworn off swapping except for this one and the "my country doesn't have that" LOL.

It would be nice to have the option for multiple partners, but not necessarily a requirement. It really depends on the number of dozens.

One or two dozen per partner would be great. Then we could have two or three partners (each getting something different, of course) and not be totally crazed.

Does the dozen in question have to be all of the same cookie?

I'm super excited at the idea of this swap Smiley

ummm, well, the cookie swaps that I am used to are the kind where you bake multiple dozens of the same cookie, I think this would be the easiest way to go if you had multiple partners. BUT it is totally up to you and your partner(s).

Okay, so... every year I cook tons of cookies and very old-fashioned Christmas candies and have bunches left over, but I do them as part of my Christmas packages for family and friends. So I wouldn't be making them until a week or two into December. So would there be any way that you could extend the send out date to closer to Christmas?? I don't even know if I can join for sure (Busy Time of Year!!), but I would like to!  Smiley

i think we should do 3 different batches (however many dozen are in your batch) and send to one person.

i know EXACTLY what i want to make

I want in this swap!!!!!  I think cookies, fudge, candies would be great!  The only problem I can see is with fudge, its easy to say make a dozen cookies or so, but with fudge should we say weight or pieces?  I have this killer fudge recipe and I make it every year, so that would be one of the things I am sending out!

I say candies can be done differently than cookies. Probably by weight, since they can be pretty heavy. Esp the fuge....MMMMMMMM! but I would also say to have a minimum of at laset 6 good sized pieces. You can always discuss it with your partner. Smiley

I have about 15 recipes I want to make! Oh the horror of having to wittle it  down to a more reasonable number.....

we are getting there..... I have already stated that I want to start signups around the middle of November with sendouts around the 2nd week of December. Since we are only researching/baking, we dont need a really long time between when signups end and the send out date approaches.

I will have a more definite time frame for you after Halloween is over and done with. Smiley
