I want to crochet a hoodie for my best friends' toddler and they both really love the WOW.   How cool would it be to add an intarsia or applique world of warcraft element?

Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about it and can't think of a simple logo or phrase that would make them squee.  Can you help me?

I am not sure what exactly you are looking for but here is a site with a WOW hearth stone you can also look there for other items and such.

If you have any other ideas let me know and I will try to find something I play WOW myself.

if you find a cross stitch pattern, they are EASILY convertered to intarsia...

if you have never done it, try finding it with very few colors

charting one out for yourself isnt that hard, just get a piece of graph paper and some color pencils....and then sketch away..

the actual method of intarsia has a few different versions...everyone has there own preferred way of doing it

You can google "world of warcraft" in images.

My 2 favorite addictions, WOW and crocheting.  I would love to see what you come up with  Grin

If you can find out what classes they play, you could google for images of their class's armor sets and simplify them for the pattern (otherwise they'd be rather complicated).  I'm guessing that tier 2 may be the best one to use and still be identifiable as the newer tiers may be too complicated to do in detail.

You could also find out what races they are, or whether they're alliance or horde, and google for the associated logo image thingies (I forget what they're called).  The World of Warcraft and Blizzard sites have wallpaper sections that have these images in detail.  I'd love to see how this turns out!  A friend of mine actually made balloon-people of my mage and my bf's priest in tier 1.  It was simplified, but with the color combinations and key armor features it was a good balloon approximation.  So...I'm sure you could do it! Cheesy

If you need more info, looks like there's several of us here who play WoW and would be willing to help out.

i know nothing about the game, but you can use this site (http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro.htm) to transform any image in a chart that can be used for cross stitching or even crochet. i'm working on a chart myself and it's going on well, if i can say so, as long as i keep it all in single crochet. i'm not sure what intarsia is, but what i'm doing is to carry along the strand i'm not using (there are only two colours). but the fabric gets a bit stiff this way, with the small hook i'm using.

I searched around, I've played the game for a while so here are some images you might consider. You'd have to find out if they played horde or alliance, and depending on the difficulty level your willing to try depends on how much I can help.
Alliance

Horde

(horde tabard on orc)

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com
http://www.wowwiki.com/
http://www.wowhead.com
http://wow.allakhazam.com/
http://www.thottbot.com

wowhead, allakhazam, and thottbot are all item look up databases. I cant think of anything else to add but hopefully that helped. for the first link in the horde category and the first link in the alliance category you actually see the symbols in game, the rest of the crests you don't really see in game.

Some Phrases you might think of using are:
Horde:
For The Horde!
general horde: I speak Orcish
trolls: I speak Zandali
Undead/Forsaken: I speak Gutterspeak
Tauren: I speak Taur-ahe
Blood Elves: I Speak Thalassian

Alliance:
For The Alliance!
general alliance: I speak Common
Gnomes: I speak Gnomish
Night Elves: I speak Darnassian
Draenei: I speak Draenei
Dwarves: I speak Dwarven

There really are alot of different things you can chose but those seem like the most commonly recognized symbols and phrases i can think of. If they're really into PVP, alot of people have figured out how to talk cross faction (you traditionally cant) and two of the phrases i see alot from cross faction when pvping are
"me love you"
"i win you lose"

you could also do some of the / commands but theres really a HUGE list of / commands which can be found here: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=468
any of those words if you add a / infront of the word it says and or does something in the game.

Like I said I hope I helped, I really cant think of anything else to add now.

Thanks so much guys!!!  I know that they play lots of different characters and I think they are horde-y types.  I remember blood elves coming up so "I speak Thalassian" would be cool.

I will post when finished for sure!!!

I made this horde logo type dealie thing using the knitpro (thanks colorless!) and then fiddling a bit.  I'll do the sweater in pink and black.
WOW people, would you recognize this symbol?
