After I saw the entire Twin Peaks series on DVD, I was inspired to make something really special for my boyfriend (he's a HUGE David Lynch fan,) for our 1 year anniversary. Of course, that came and went, and the game itself got stuffed in a paper bag in the back of a closet for several months until I saw the post for this challenge on my beloved craftster. Five weeks later, I give you:

WRAPPED IN PLASTIC
a Twin Peaks board game

I used Parker Brothers' Clue for the base and overall theme, considering it is a murder-mystery game and whatnot. I bought a used game from a local thrift store- unfortunately it was missing many parts which I am still finding substitutes for. The weapons are being particularly tricky. But for the most part, my game is complete, and definitely playable!

To start, I renamed all of the rooms.

Then, I painted the floor to make it look like natural stone.
I tried to keep the shadows from the rooms the same, like on the original Clue board. This is me putting on some finishing touches with a sharpe.

Here is the red room, which I am most proud of:

I had no red paint to paint the curtains on, so i used the red part if a few plastic bags all crinkled up and glued on. I think it turned out really cool. Here is the corresponding card for the red room.

And the character cards were fun to make too. Here's James Hurley:

That's his black game piece in the background. (There wasn't a black game piece in the original clue, I just thought black would go better with bad-boy James Hurley.) Here's purple Dr. Jacoby, red Ben Horne, etc. (All works in progress):

My first and favorite weapon, (the REAL murder weapon- Laura Palmer died of blood loss from several shallow cuts...) a razor blade:

Here's Leo Johnson's House, complete with secret passage to Dr. Jacoby's office:

And with corresponding card:

Me working on cards:

And for the sake of Halloween, scary corpse of Laura Palmer, literally wrapped in plastic:

I used a glue stick and some thick clear plastic from a gift bag to make the crinkled plastic and then sprinkled her face with some iridescent glitter to make it look wet. She's still really scary though, so we keep her covered up with the case file folder when we're playing.  Wink

Sorry so pic heavy, but I just had so much fun working on this, I had to show everybody! Thanks for looking! And if you've never played clue, or if you've never seen Twin Peaks, I suggest you go out right now and do both, because they are awesome, (especially when you put 'em together!)  Grin

Thanks again and happy crafting!!

~River

Some more pictures, cuz you asked:

The Palmer's House

One-Eyed Jacks!!

And Harold Smith's House- complete with plants and everything.

Oh hey!  Cheesy I guess I should give a little background on the show!!

Twin peaks was a prime time drama that first aired in 1990. It was created by David Lynch (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive) starring Kyle MacLachlan. It was centered around the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer in a small town in Washington state, called Twin Peaks. It won a Golden Globe. People loved it. Unfortunately, due to David Lynch's wonderful weirdness, it was canceled after the second season.

What a brilliant collision of concepts! If ever there was a Clue-apt narrative, it was Twin Peaks.

I remember (I was a sophomore in high school) being so awed that David Lynch managed to land a prime time spot. I was glued to the TV for the premiere episode, knowing it could only last so long . . .

Have you seen the Wrapped in Plastic fanzine? I had one issue with and amazing cover reproduction of Agent Cooper pimping a canned Japanese coffee drink. In that issue WIP also reported on a Japanese Twin Peaks board game. Unfortunately, I no longer have the zine. It only made it through twelve or so moves  :-But this is a link to the publisher:http://spectrummagazines.bizland.com/Home.chtml Just for, you know, obsessive interest.

Cheesy I named it after the fanzine! I'm sooo glad at least a few people are on the same page as me!! I made the razor blade out of posterboard, painted silver and cut into the shape of a tiny razorblade and I drew on the little cutout with a sharpe.

funny story- i googled an image of a razorblade (for purposes of being accurate with my drawing) and one of the first images that came up was a picture of clear bars of glycerin soap with razorblades inside!! How creepy, right?! I was curious and clicked on the picture and the website took me to a blog of all things skeptical and starnge and THAT led me to a website dedicated entirely to Candian milk bags. Because Canadians sell litres of milk in bags instead of gallons of milk in jugs like in the US. It was so bizarre, yet culturally educational...

ANYWAY- I'm still thrifting for more weapons. I really want a little GI Joe rifle... And a rope. I think I might get some gold embroidery floss to tie up like twine. And I'll trick out the card with the brand-name of the twine that was used to bind Laura Palmer and everything!

I will try to take more pictures of the rooms later today... I accidentally labled the library to be the "sheriff's station", but as soon as i did it I realized I really should have called it the "bookhouse". oops. maybe I'll fix that too!!

thanks everybody!

I really definitely recommend renting or buying twin peaks seasons one and two. The pilot episode had been unavailable in the US forever for some reason, but later this month I think they're releasing both seasons including the pilot all together in one boxed set- its gonna be EPIC.  Grin

Oh my goodness... this is absolutely brilliant... no joke.  Twin Peaks was family night for us back in the 80's.  We mourned it's loss when it was canceled in 90.  What an amazing amazing amazing game.

You rule, and i will now hug you and love you for the rest of my life!
The idea, the attention to detail... you are just The Shit, period.

I am in the middle of season two right now with my ex who is watching for the first time... I got him hooked a while back, and one of the things that has helped keep us such close friends is 'Dinner & Peaks Night'...
We still have FWWM to go, but after that I might decide to 'borrow' your idea and make a TP game to keep the tradition going.

I am hitting 'this rocks', 'cause it does, and you have my vote for the challenge hands down!

Oh, and by the way...

I know this is a super old post, but I just wanted to tell you that you may actually be the reason I joined up to craftster! haha. I was searching for some inspiration for twin peaks crafts and found this and fell in love. I made my own version for my boyfriend's birthday a few days ago, with a few modifications, like a birdcage charm with a tiny bird inside and a tiny axe for two of the weapons (the bird being WALDO!) and rewrote the instruction book and made new 'Coop' themed detective notes. So thankyou haha, he loved it! You are a genius!
