I located this as a tattoo on a website and asked the artist if I could render it to hand embroidery, he said yes, and I'm not done with it just yet, because I want to make this into a pillow cover for one on my couch... LOVE the design...

Human rights are for EVERYONE.  Did you know that Aung San Suu Kyi had been released from house arrest in Burma? Many other prisoners of conscience are still being detained.  Please research this topic... Amnesty International needs your help.

So totally awesome.

Your stitches look super neat! It will be the best couch pillow ever, for serious.

Do you have a link to the original design, just to see what it looked like before the awesome transformation into fabric?

You know, I think it's a sugar skull and not Maori. Two different cultures. Sugar skulls are traditionally Mexican and used during Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

I'd love to give you the link, however, it's an inkednation.com address and in order to see it, I believe you have to have a membership and it is also available on MySpace, again I think you may have to have a membership to actually view this guy, Ash's work.  If I get permition from Ash to post the photo I will but if you have a MySpace or an Inkednation account, I'd be more than happy to show you the real tattoo...

You know, I think it's a sugar skull and not Maori. Two different cultures. Sugar skulls are traditionally Mexican and used during Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

Yes, One would think that this was a Dia de los Muertos sugar skull, however, it isn't.  If you look closely, you will see that the tongue is extended, and the design was from a person in Australia with a Maori connection, also please note the designs on the chin of the figure, these are typical Maori... I also want to note here that I have a Double B.A. in Anthropology (Focus in Cultural Anthropology) and Art History, and have a minor in Southeast Asian Studies, I've had to do plenty of work on islands in the Pacific, such as Palau and Yap as well as Papau New Guinea and New Zealand, I thank you for your opinion, however, for the artist's sake, and my educational background, I'm sticking with Maori, here's a real facial tattoo image of a Maori tribesman... for a visual...

And here is a Maori with tongue extended for another visual:
