I was too lazy to read what everyone else wrote but I think if you bought a basic (not frilly) apron pattern (which you can buy for like 2 bucks, as an 'easy sew' thing) and added some seams to make it 'fit' it would work well, also the fabric for these aprons is key, it's what gives it the great look. I think I might try to make one of these....

Simplicity 5961
Simplicity 8720
Butterick B4087
Butterick B6567
McCall's M4793
McCall's M3979

Those are more 'retro' type things, but usually an apron is pretty easy to make, it just matters how complicated you want to make it.

I believe McCall's has a bunch of retro apron patterns in the backs of their books.
