We got our couch for free on Craigs List years ago, and it's pretty comfy, but it was ugly as hell.

Tan faux-suede, worn off in patches, stained, lumpy sides, and weird poofy arms!

So I bought a whole bunch of yards of grey plaid cotton velvet at the fabric store, staple gun staples, and got to work. A week, lots of swearing, and many episodes of the new Doctor Who later:

Yay! I want to recover the chair to match, but I think it'll be awhile until I work up the energy again. I love it though!

I didn't use any pattern, not even tracing the fabric that came off (because I wanted to create a different shape entirely), just a lot of stapling, tugging, and some glue (I created those front sections on each side by wrapping cardboard with batting and fabric and glueing them to the front of the couch).

Wow! Having reupholstered my own couch, I know what a job it can be. Looks like you did a great job, though! It looks like you have a brand new couch. Now, you need to make some snazzy throw pillows for it Wink

Nice job!  It looks like you even matched the plaid!  Not only did you get yourself a new couch, you saved that much room in a landfill!

Your couch looks great! Your swearing, blood, sweat and tears came out very, very well.

Thanks dudes!! I love my new couch!

craftADDchick, I totally want to make some cool pillows for it. I'm waiting until we find something to cover that horrible linoleum floor you see, so it can match!

I am really, really impressed!  Do you have any hints on making the fabric taut?

Wow... that is just... amazing! Cheesy

How did you make the cushions all nice and square-like now?  Or did you make new cushions all together?

One more thing... will you come do mine next?? Grin
