Hi there! My friend is having a baby, and she is extremely goth. It's difficult to find good gifts for gothic mothers-to-be, so I made her an illusion baby blanket.

Straight on:

Angle:

All up in that skully's face:

I used the pattern here: http://ysolda.com//wordpress/index.php/skull-illusion-knit-scarf/
Instead of knitting it once in a row, I knit it 3 times. So the blanket is the skull three times in 2 rows. It measures a bit bigger than 2 ft x 2 ft. I hope she likes it, and I really hope the illusion holds up despite all the gross baby vomit and multiple washings (something I did not consider before I started it). Does anyone know if I have anything to worry about? Thanks a bunch!

Cute!  It should be fine unless it is wool and gets felted.  And believe me, there are lots grosser things than spit up... (so says the mom of two).

Wait, where did those come from?  I swear I didn't go to the craft store, honest!

That is freakin' sweet!  I think I know what I want to do with my stash of yarn that has been building up and building up....

I love it!

That is awesome.  I stuff up the pattern every time I've tried illusion knitting, so kudos to you getting through  a whole baby blanket.

Like faerieflings says, as long as it isn't wool it should wash fine.  And even if it is wool, your friend will be able to use it in ways that it wont need washing so much (draping over an already sleeping baby, wrapping round her shoulders while she feeds, on display in the bedroom, shade on the pram...I'm feeding a bub right now with a blanket draped over her).

What a great present.   Smiley

Thanks guys! Grin

I made it out of acrylic (Simply Soft, to be precise) because I know babies do gross stuff. Good to know it'll hold up. Yay!
