I'm making one with chunky wool and 5mm circulars. I don't have the right dpns though. And I need to check how UK/US needle sizes compare.

Thanks for the pattern - I knit one up in no time and I'm putting it in my Christmas gift pile.

I am loving all your lovely hats ladies, very cosy and cute too! Cheesy

i am knitting mine flat because i havent got circulars big enough, or DPN's big enough (my biggest are 4mm) and i have just got to the decreases. I can do the k2tog on the knit side but what do i do on the Purl side? would P2tog after every marker work?

i am so glad mine is knitting up quite big as i have a huge melon for a head, so most hats look ridiculous on me...

thanks for your help. Smiley

Loved making this hat so much that I made two!

Made the tab a bit shorter on this one.

Used one skein of Rowan Big Wool for each hat.

I started this hat, and ended up pulling it apart at about row 7 of the knit stitches as it was way too big for me.  I'm using lion brand wool-ease thick and quick with the US 8 circulars and US 10.5 dpns.  Is it supposed to be knit pretty tightly?  Does anyone know what the gauge on the band at the bottom should be? My head's also pretty small, but I put it on my husband (who has a melon head) and it just barely fit him. Pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

the only thing I can think of is that your band is really big before you
tack it together (see the end of the pattern?)
another idea is to go through the projects posted on Ravelry
and see if anyone has made comments there that might help?

I ended up restarting and doing 10 fewer stitches off the length of the band and off the circumference of the hat itself.  Worked perfectly after that.  I think I must have been knitting a little too big.
