YKYACW you've been dubbed "the crazy craft lady". Instead of collecting cats, I collect craft supplies!

you know youtube is fantastic for learning quilting (or anything else!0..I read a lot and am happy to learn stuff from books, but browsing through youtube shows tips and techniques in a way that is really easy to grasp..it is so much easier when you can watch someone do something, rather than follow a sequence of pix..

I have dial-up so YouTube is a no.
Also, I learn really well just using diagrams. I've already taught myself embroidery using that same book so I figured I could learn quilting the same way

ugh..dial-up, poor you...quilting is actually very easy, mostly sewing straight lines, so I reckon you will pick it up no problem

I'm using a pillow quilting technique where each square is made separately, filled then sewn together afterward.

YKYACW you can't keep up the lie that you gave up crafting. I've been taking crochet projects with me to work for the past week. When people ask me about making something, I tell them "Money talks and bullshit walks." So far, all I've had is bullshit.

FreakieGeekie - I love that book! I had a roommate from heck ruin my copy that I'd inherited from my Gma... Then I got a new copy from the Goodwill for $2. The squeal heard through the shop freaked out many people.
YKYACW you debate breaking your yarn diet for your sister in law (who you're surprised is still putting up with your brother after all these years). She's from Germany, and can't find a hat/scarf set in the flag colors, so you start digging through all of your boxes of yarn, praying you have yellow.
YKYACW your other sister wants to learn how to crochet so you link her to the Craftster crochet FAQ.

It's a great book, isn't it? It's my most prized book (and that's saying something because I have LOTS of books).
I think I would have had to beat her/him if he/she destroyed an inherited book.
I know that feeling. My sister wanted me to crochet a scarf with Gryffindor's colors and I didn't have the right colors. Solution? She bought the yarn for me.
I sometimes take my crochet with me to work and I'll have customers say "I wish I could crochet! I've always wanted to learn but it looks so hard!" So I give out the Craftster url and tell them step-by-step how to get to the crochet FAQ.

YKYACW you take "You didn't make that! You bought it!" as a compliment.
I'm working on my first poppet and I took him to work to show my coworkers and a few of my regulars.
The ones who know I craft know I'm pretty good at what I do. Those who don't know I craft wanted to argue that I bought him and was just finishing him. Of course once I explained how he was put together they realized I wasn't full of it and were floored.
