I did that a couple years ago for Christmas. I used too much money on gifts & couldnt afford really nice wrapping paper. So, I used brown paper, raffia (that I had), stamped on pretty green stars, & tied on real holly leaves. No one wanted to open their gifts!

I love the cut out shapes! I love wrapping gifts in kraft paper. Often, I'll use kraft paper, then dress up the package with fancy ribbon. Recently, when I had to wrap a gift, I had access to my paper, but not my ribbon. So I created a "ribbon" out of more paper.

Thanks for resurrecting this post!
Your timing is uncanny to me as I just wrapped another gift YESTERDAY with my trusty ole brown paper.
Only this time, it was for a kids birthday party, so I let my 2 1/2 year old son do the "art" on the giftwrap and he went to town with the markers on it, creating a cool, shall we say "abstract" design!
Then I stamped the name of the recipient on the front. It was funky...sorry I don't have a pic!
BTW, I have seen brown kraft paper at the $1 store lately (such a better deal than the office supply monster stores!).
