Hi!

I just moved to a small town, and apparently where I've moved to is notorious for how slowly people receive things - be it in the mail or from a shop..

My mother-in-law ordered some counter tops a good month ago, and was told they'd be here in two weeks. WELL. She decided to take matters into he own hands, buy a piece of plywood and some tiles and go to it!

This is what she came up with, complete with peachy orange walls. I was so proud of her, neither of us have ever attempted anything like it. I love it, and went on to contribute my little artifacts to it! I thought the cork board over the sink really sets it off.

I still think it needs something.. Any ideas?

Hi there.

What a great job you and your mother in law have done - it looks incredibly professional for something you have both done for the first time - well done to the both of you!

You have entitled your work Kitschy/Retro kitchen.  As an idea how about some pictures depicting this.  If you can't find any to buy how about making your own  Wink - I'm sure if you typed those words into Google images something will come up that you could print off and use in some way or another.  Just an idea.

Congrats again.

With blessings.

P.S.  I can't believe you are married at 19 - all the best for your new married life.

Great job! I just love the colors you used! The only thing I could think of is maybe putting a white shelf centered over the counter you've got there (and maybe put your cute little canisters and/or other accesories on it).

aww it's cute!
i heart kitschy stuff.

i think you should definitely put up a shelf up for your canisters (i would put it over the sink and move the corkboard to a more prominent location, but that's just a personal preference).

also, i don't know if it's allowed, but you may want to consider changing the front of the cabinets - even if it's just with paint. i think that would look a lot better than the white your kitchen is currently hosting.

but anyway, good work! make sure to post pictures of any updates you decide to do!

YES! He's probably the most amazing person I've ever known. His name is Alex and he's nerdy and smart and ridiculously good-looking. Everyone thought we were crazy for being engaged so young (I had just turned nineteen and he was almost twenty-one) but as soon as they saw us at the wedding it all changed.

When we first met, we were literally inseparable, and got matching anchor tattoos after three weeks. I've always been the reckless type and I guess I brought that out in him. His parents moved to Alberta (we're from Victoria, BC) and he didn't have a place to stay, so after knowing him for only a month, he moved in with me, and we've never been apart. He proposed this last February and we were married August 23 this year.

How did you deal with getting married young? Was it easy enough? People still give me weird looks when I tell them I'm married (because I could probably pass for 14 if I wanted to).

PM me and I'll add you!

I agree with changing out the cabinets if you can. YOu could probably find some really cute white ones with a retro look to them and put some cute knobs on them as already stated  Wink
