I can't see the stitches in it!!  Tonight I'm going to break out my bright desk lamp and try that, but so far, everytime I start making the little black feet for my amigruimmi project, I mess it up!

I'm kinda just venting here, so sorry  Smiley

Yeah, I have the problem too.  But the more I crochet and knit, the better I get at being able to see what I'm doing.  I think that's why they suggest newbies don't start with dark yarn.  So, yes, bright lamps help, and you just have to muscle through it, or pick a lighter color.  Good luck.

It will also help if you get a white sheet or towel, anything white or cream and hold it in your lap as you crochet.

I haven't tried them yet but there are light up crochet hooks for dark yarns too. It's supposed to help. The worst is dark colored thin thick yarn I started a project with it and gave up almost immediately!

Have you tried having a light underneath your work? I've found that can work quite well as the light shines through the holes.

The main trick is to find one bright enough to show through without blinding you in the process.  Grin

I have this same problem. I was making a pair of fingerless gloves out of black yarn and I dropped so many stitches it was gross. I started counting them after every row, just so I didn't have to pick it back up or tink row after row after row.

I made a pink, black and turquoise (80s? yep) afghan for a secret santp gift and did a black sc border. trying to sew it all together was brutal. i learned to never edge squares in black.
