i know that the idea is to use scraps, but i'm already picking out fabric offline for this quilt. about they sewing machine, i actually once smacked my machine reaaaally hard with a book, it got mad and ignored all my tension settings for a week until it got over it when i made it a sewing machine cover

Amazing!!! You could tie it insead of quilting, then you do not have to wait forever. If you backed it with polar fleece, you would not have to "fill" it. You just use yarn and tie a knot every few inches
