Your quilt is so pretty! I love all the colors, and the patterns within the colors, and--I love everything about it! This is great! Good job! (I wish I had your crafty quilting skills...)  Wink

However, I'm running into a lot of design difficulty.  How do you make it random, yet balanced?  How much planning did you put into your design, and how much of it was just grabbing scraps off the floor?

How do I let go of my inner control freak?

Stressfull, isn't it? The colours of the largest squares were really decided for me by virtue of being the only fabric I had in sufficient quantities to do them but I created each quarter of the quilt on the floor with little piles of the fabric I was going to use for each square. There were still moments of 'colour clumping paranoia' where I would have to be calmed down from a rage of "@!$%@! IT! THAT YELLOW IS TOO CLOSE TO THAT YELLOW AND NOW IT'S ALL POINTLESS! STUPID BLOODY SEWING!" but that had more to do with my own personal brand of insanity than the process.

I think if I was to do it again, I'd think more about contrast than colour because the overall mix seems to sort itself out.

Fight the control freakiness. You'll feel better for it.  Smiley

...it was always destined to become a riot of colour, but it's turned out not so much a riot as a full scale turf war. This pleases me.
It pleases me, too. In fact, it pleases me so much that I came out of lurker mode and registered for these forums just so I could tell you that.

I love scrap quilts, and this one is absolutely gorgeous. Well done!

I have been wanting to learn to quilt for ages.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE multicolor patchwork squares. Alas, I don't have such an awe-inspiring scrap collection.  It will take years for my stash to be scrap-worthy of such an quilt-terrific undertaking.

This is a very inspiring piece of art, yes art - you have given birth to.  Your description was so funny I almost shot peas out of my nose for laughing.  (and I wasn't even eating peas at the time)  We girls are entitled to every last shred of melodrama we can muster, especially after such a laborious and unappreciated project.  Keep some smelling salts nearby and swoon away, girlfriend.  You've earned it!
