hey!
does anyone know of any poetry readings/poetry open mikes/slams in the burbs or chicago? ive found a few online via chicagoreader.com but im afraid of just showing up at some cafe in the city that i dont even know of, plus not knowing the scene or the people that attend these might not be the greatest thing...

does anyone know of some good ones to check out that youve been to or recommend some from past experiences???
thanks sooo much!

Are you in for a treat or what! Chicago has a great slam/spoken word scene. Look into Louder Than a Bomb, a yearly slam going on in the next few weeks. It is the largest youth slam in the known universe. more info available at youngchicagoauthors.org. YCA also runs a youth (read high school to twenty somethings) open mic every Tuesday. The stuff there is usually quite good. There are several other places that I can tell you about if you want but those are the best. If you want more info, just pm me.
best of luck.
peace.

I just today read about the Uptown Poetry Slams. Its every sunday for $6 from 7-10pm. I read a review of it online and hopefully I'll make it there soon. This is where its held: http://www.greenmilljazz.com/poetryslam.html That Louder Than a Bomb one sounds pretty cool, too.
