This was made for a birthday present for my sister.  The piano key stencil was done separately in black acrylic on a white strip of fabric and was top stitched on as I put the bag together.  I love the way the stencil turned out.  The bag itself is made of black canvas and is lined with some white and black flowered fabric I had laying around.  There is also an inside zipper pocket for keeping smaller things from getting lost.  The whole thing is 12 in. x 14.5 in. and is two inches wide, a good size for carrying school books.  This is my favorite tote I've ever done, and I think my sister is really going to love it.  Let me know what you think.

The lining and pocket

A few semi-action shots of it hanging out in the dorm room:

Thanks guys!
I actually thought about making it a pocket, but I figured it would be really shallow and stick out kind of weird if she put stuff in it so I decided against it.

I agree with your decision regarding the piano key strip - it would get distorted the second anything was put in it, and the bigger the contents the more distorted it would get. The only thing I can think of that would not be as bad would be to turn each key or pair of keys into a pocket for short things like pens and short rulers, but even so I like it as a flat decoration. Oh, and btw, I love the bag, and the lining is perfect!

I really like the fabric you used for the lining, it suits the exterior of the bag well.  Smiley
