I finally remembered to take a picture of monks lunch tonite.  Its a slightly unusual one - he almost always has onigiri because he eats rice anytime, anywhere, any way.  Today he had leftover pasta instead.  He also almost always, without fail, has grapes, but since he was going to school only one day this week I didn't get any (they were yukky AND expensive).

Top left: bunny egg colored with food coloring markers, broccoli and marinated baby corn.
Top right: tangerine
Bottom Left: leftover pasta, surimi fake crab sticks
Bottom right: mini bagel with cream cheese

those egg molds never will cease to amaze me!! here's my thanksgiving bento for today

today's lunch is a generous portion of soy'd rice in the shape of a turkey (i think it's really cute :3) he's even go carrot slice tail feathers and grape tomato red gullet thing-a-ma-bob. he's decorated with bits and pieces of nori. along with that are two hard boiled eggs, two rounds of cheese, and some really tasty chocolates.

i was going to do stuff with the eggs, but they wouldn't peel right :/ i think i let them cool too long, or not enough because the whites would stick to the inside of the shell and peel away with the shell. thus leaving these maimed, gouged, eggs. heh at least they still taste ok :3

fruit's gotten expensive lately o.O although it's apple time so there's a lot of those. i doubt there'll be bento's next week since it's thanksgiving, and i'll be home :3 but we'll see

i've never seen them before, coming from KY/OH/IN area that's not suprising, but we had (what i thought) was a really good oriental area in Cleveland, and an ok one (for a college town) in Lafayette, but i've never run across them before  Cheesy i guess i should look more Smiley

I can't read it but the pics give great ideas of how complicated (and cute!) bentos can get.

Well, I finally attempted to make hot dog creatures.  I guess these are ghosts with toothpick arms.  I used fennel seeds for the eyes.  (I meant to buy nori yesterday but I totally forgot to put it on my list.)  They are on a bed of curried potatoes.  I think the bento looks off somehow, it needs something green thrown in.  I added edamame AFTER the photo.  Alex is using his basketball bento that I picked up at the dollar store.  It isn't airtight though, so I had to put cling film over the food before putting the lid on.
