Hubby told me that a co-worker is expecting. I'm pretty sure he said it was a boy. I'm also pretty sure that he mentioned the mommy is eco-conscious. So I got me some fancy yarn! It's Bernat's Bamboo, and I strongly recommend you try it! It is so soft; it feels like cashmere. The only problem is it's hand wash only, and I made baby things with it. Oh well, it's her first.

I made the pattern up myself, and it's obviously not blocked. I HATE blocking, and it's a blanket- so who cares! The blanket was done in a half-double crochet lattice pattern with ten rows of lattice and one row of HDC alternating. The border is a shell stitch (or my version of it). The snuggle bunny (that's what I call them because that's what we call snuggly hugs in my house) is done with five rows of HDC lattice and one row of HDC alternating. It also has a shell stitch border, and the head and ears are single crochet with a much smaller hook. I couldn't tell you how many stitches I cast on; I'm bad about writing things down.
Oh, the colors are water (blue) and linen (off white).
Now I just hope it really is a boy!

Thanks!  It was pretty cheap.  I got it at JoAnn's $2.99 for 2 oz.  Definitely worth a try!

That's lovely, what a thoughtful gift! It would be just as nice for a baby girl, especially if it feels really soft.

wow, those are gorgeous.  That is such a nice and thoughtful gift.  I think it's great for a boy or a girl, soft and beautiful is soft and beautiful regardless of traditional colours.

I really like the colors.  It doesn't look too pastel (I loathe pastel) or girly (which most baby blankets do).  It also LOOKS soft, so I can only imagine how soft it really is. Mm...soft.  I have some of that Vanna's Choice from Lion Brand.  That stuff is cashmere feeling, too... I'm using that to make a baby blanket for a boy (WIP).  This is like one long jumbled thought, so sorry Smiley  Anyway, nice blanket! I like the lil bunny, too.  So thoughtful!

I love those new Bernat yarns. By the way- I have some of the alpaca, which also says hand wash and dry. I knitted a swatch and washed it in cold water and dried it and it looks completely fine. So you might give it a try with a swatch of the bamboo.

Also, the title to this post cracks me up. Smiley

Thanks so much for all the compliments!
I thought about getting the green, but they didn't have enough.  I think it'll be all right, from what my Hubby tells me, she's not a fussy person and her Hubby is artistic, so who knows.  If she is having a girl and would rather have a girly one, I can always hold onto it.  I have a few friends who are trying, and my two year old son may like it.

I saw that display, but I was really looking for the eco-friendly slant.  I might get some of Vanna's Choice for some of my kids stuff.

Definitely!  I'm already trying to justify something fuzzy for myself!

Thanks, I always try to come up with creative titles.
I'll definitely have to make a swatch and wash it.  It worries me because it's not really tightly spun, and really the only thing holding it together is the thread it's plied with.  I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

That is so cute I love the color and it looks soft. I may give that bamboo yarn a try. When I first saw bamboo yarn I immediately thought it would be rough like bamboo sticks. You did a great job, I like it alot.

Thanks!  Yeah, I thought that at first, too, but when I touched it, it actually felt softer than the alpaca blend they had.

It looks beautiful!

I've seen the bamboo yarn before at the LYS but didn't get any.  It was SO soft though.

Great job on the blanket!

I love the new bamboo products that are out. We were looking at some bamboo jersey sheets the other day. I was amazed at how soft they were. I love the colors and the alternating rows of stitches. It is so thoughtful of you to use the bamboo for her and her wee one. Smiley
