OK so I was walking past AE the other day and saw this vest I had to have

(unfortunately it being AE and me not being a size 4, I couldn't get it ). Does anyone
think they could help come up w/a pattern? I'd also love some ideas on changing the
retrievers to dachsunds if possible (or just about any dog or cat would be cool too.

If you wanna get a better view of it this is the page its on

That is adorable.  Reminds me of hats my mother used to make me when she had a knitting machine.  She sold most of everything she made, but we'd get to keep a few things around Smiley

Find a pattern you like fro a vest, or design your own - anything at the right gauge. Chart out your favourite dogs and add them to the pattern.
For this neither stranding nor intarsia is ideal because there are enough colours to make intarsia a freaken NIGHTMARE but there is enough distance between stitches to make stranding a freaken NIGHTMARE too! I'd say do swatches both ways, until you are consistently getting a result you are happy with, to see which turns out better for you or is easier to perform. If intarsia do it flat, for stranding do it in the round and cut it.
Very cute!
