I just started stenciling about a week ago. I'm using freezer paper and did a few from stencilry.org just to try. I was planning on getting a copy of Photoshop so that I could start making my own but read somewhere that you can make them in WPs so I tried it and voila! It worked! And it was easy......
Anyway, I took a photograph that I took last summer and made a stencil from it. I always read people posting in threads about how they won't cut a stencil that has floating pieces and they bridge everything. This stencil was funny because I don't think you can call it a stencil as every piece almost was floating. Regardless, freezer paper rocks, I smothered the paint on without being careful in the least and the lines are as clean as anything. My camera sucks. I swear the pictures don't do it justice. Oh and the the whole thing is on about a 2 feet by 1 1/2 foot frame that I made and stretched fabric over with a staple gun.

I wish I had a better camera.....

that looks wicked. Cheesy plus it seems like it would've been a pretty dynamic image to start with. any chance we could see the original photo?

that looks good!

I prefer bridges, but sometimes it's ridiculous to use them if you have a whole lot of floating pieces. Once I stenciled intestines and it was more complicated to use bridges. Or you can make bridges and cut them off as you're ironing the freezer paper.

Pretty!! I wonder what that thing in the back is... ferris wheel??  Tongue

Don't we all just <3333333 freezer paper? I hate bridges, so it is my savior. And that stretched fabric thing over a frame is awesome.

I'm laying on the ground and they are leaning over me and it is the roof of a yurt in the background. I'll upload the original photo later!
Thanks Smiley

Here's the original......

I don't think I mentioned but it's a picture of my sister and her boyfriend and his brother and was a housewarming present for them.

WP=Word Processor like Word Perfect, Microsoft Word or I use a free downloadable one OpenOffice.org Writer

I just meant that you can create stencils in your Word Processor you don't need any fancy graphic programs Smiley

Very cool.  It took me forever to successfully make a photograph into a decent stencil, so I'm impressed.  And your lines are really clean.

And it's always good to see someone else with a lot of floaters.  Although I don't have access to freezer paper so it takes a really long time to adhere all the little pieces in lettering and whatnot.

this is awesome, but i have a question. did you iron the freezer paper to the material you used? and did you use cardstock or some kind of matboard? last time i tried freezer paper + cardstock, the freezing paper ruined my cardstock when i pulled it off. enlighten me! Tongue

I made the wooden frame and then stretched two layers of an old cream colored bedsheet over the frame and stapled it taut. then I put some boards down on the floor the same height as the depth of the inside so when I ironed I would be able to push a little harder and put a towel over the boards and then the frame over that. Ironed everything on (which took FOREVER!) The painting part took literally minutes. I hope that answers your question. Let me know if it doesn't. I two have put my iron on some materials that were never meant to be ironed. Messy! Hehe

definitely digging it! I think it would be interesting with some more colors too...hmmm. but it looks awesome. I've been stenciling for a while but never used freezer paper..but this pretty much convinces me to try it. it turned out very nice.
