Hey everyone!
I'm sort of new on this whole craftster experience. But, I just wanted to say hello to the local artists. My roomate and some of our friends get together one night out of the week for "Camp Craft" and sit around and drink wine. Usually I paint while the others either knit or bring something random that they want to work on. Usually around the end of it, we decided (drunkenly) to play Mystery Date (aka Dream Phone). It may sound silly, but it's alot of fun. So, if any local crafters feel like getting together and mulling over ideas and what not, drop me a line.

as a sidenote, my roomie and i are also members of the newly formed, in production Red Stick Roller Derby. so if you've got any derby ideas, let me know. or, hell, if you're interested in it, let me know that too.

my roomate is a much better sewer than i am. she used to work in the costume shop of LSU's Department of Theatre. she likes to modify t-shirts and all that. i like to embroider silly shit on to the shirts she makes. i don't know how to crochet, i've always wanted to learn because they have cooler projects than knitting.

Hi, I just joined this site, although I've poked around on it for quite a while.  I live in Baton Rouge and would love to get to know some other crafters.  I have tried a couple of things but don't seem to be good at any of them.  It's probably a lack of patience, too.  I don't take the time to work on stuff, but I have an 8 month old son that I'd love to make stuff for.  So anyway, hello to everyone!

I've been looking for other people who sew.  I'm always down for a craft night, but if someone would be interested in giving me lessons, we could work out a trade.  I'm a massage therapist. I know how tight those shoulders get from sewing (or any other craft!)  Wink

Well maybe if we can get a count of the craftsters in the BR area then we can attempt to organize a gathering of some sort.  It may not be a gathering where we actually do a lot of crafting, but at least we can talk about it and share techniques...teach...whatever!  What do you guys think?

I'm up for that.  There are surely more in our area than in this forum, but I'm not sure how to reach them.  This board is very slow!

I know this is a little late, but I would love to see a crafty get-together thing in Baton Rouge. If anyone has been successful or wants to try to make one successful will you hit me up?

I want to get together.  I've been here for 2 months and am completely devoid of crafty communication!

Sounds good to me. I'm free Monday, Wednesday, or Friday nights after about seven, and sporatically on the weekends. I think it would be great to have a crafty meet at a bar. I could see myself assulting skinny hipster guys with crochet hooks.

I'm all about crafting and drinking.

I can meet anytime since I'm jobless.

I'd love to join in!  I am free most weeknights, especially Fridays.  Let's set a date!

Sounds good to me. Now we have to find a place, date, time and duration. How about we just figure out a time/date/location for the first meet, and figure everything else out when we meet/as we go along.
So, just out of curiosity, what is everybody's forte'? I am into embroidery, bad crocheting, sewing, and I just got a Lomography Diana F+ that I am excited about playing with. I also make random crafts like hair barrettes, hair flowers, some jewelry, etc, and like reading up on cool crafts. Pretty much anything with a needle or a glue gun, lol. Grin

Fridays seem to be the popular vote.
I'm new here, is there a place to sit and people won't mind?
I was thinking like a community coffee.

I would probably bring my knitting loom.

Oh, and I'm also down for a meet-up.

Location suggestion:  somewhere near LSU's campus. There're used to lots of people sitting around. Grin

Also bookstores, like Books a Million and so on.  They have tables & chairs near the magazines, so you also get the added bonus of access to the craft mags.  If we can at least manage one get-together, then we can choose a more appropriate gathering place at that time.
Unfortunately, I won't be around this coming Friday, the 10th.

Wow, that sounds great. I wouldn't be able to make it this or next friday, but after that I'm pretty free. I've also possibly recruited one or two girls. We just need to decided on a placeand the start date and time. I'm partial to the idea of meeting around seven. Want to do a vote or the location and all that mess or something? Also, want to switch #'s (but not on the bullietin board) just in case any last minutes are made?

The 24th?  I think I'm free that day.  Seven works for me as well.  Great, now we just need a location.

Friday, July 24th at 7:00pm:
Book a Million
225-291-2135
10533 South Mall Drive
Baton Rouge, LA 70809
(off Siegen)

It may be a hike for some, but From there, we can pick another place more central to everyone instead of going back and forth on the board.

It will be fun.

The day before the meet up, I'll send reminders to everyone who has posted on this thread.

Will we meet by the coffee? (I've never been there) and I get lost easily.

By the coffee is probably easier than in the tall racks of books.  Hope to see you all there!

Hello.  I am a newbie on this site.  In fact, today is my first day.  I own a small mobile business that I run out of my home.  The name of my business is Crafts by Carrol, LLC .  I have lived here in B.R. all of my life.  Every item in my line can be customized to fit your needs.  So, please if you want to stand out and make an impression.  Then you need to shoot me an email with your contact information included.  And what the event is?  Also include when the event is.  My email:  cbcarrol@live.com  You can also take a look and follow me on my blog at http://craftsbycarrol.blogspot.com or just pick up your phone and give me a call at 225-910-8768.  Either way.  You will reach me.

I also have come up with an idea to save money on buying accessories for your daughter or grand daughter, or niece, cousin.  It is called the Switch-A-Rue Accessories Collection.  Get in contact with me to find out more.

And remember, "Keep Living the Crafting Life."
