Need help/advise on making this hat for halloween costume please!

I am making my son a Mario costume for Halloween. I am stumped on the hat. I have no clue how to do this part. He is 18 months old. Any help, advise, suggestions would be forever appreciated! Thanks.

I would use the newsboy hat pattern and modify it to fit his head using red fabric then applique the M on before attatching the liner.

I need one that I can sew. I have searched all over the web and cant find a pattern. There are plenty to buy but not the color or size that I need. Anyone have a pattern or a round about way of telling me how I could do it? I have an idea but not sure if I can execute it. Thanks for feedback!

are patterns and directions for a newsboy pattern... but you will have to modify the heck out of it....

But think about it! Red fabric and instead of a floppy brim for the girl, just substitue the one brim for the boy HTH

If all else fails, take one of the baby stocking caps (like the ones that they put on the baby when they leave the hospital)...

Dye it red with fabric dye (about $2)...

And paint or iron-on the "M".

I know they sell the stocking caps in most stores in various sizes, and they are cotton and stretchy, so they should fit.

Dollar Tree. I was just in there and they had kid's generic cop costumes with hats.  You could easily take apart the hat and recover it!  They were kind of small but may still be too big for your little one, but I am sure you could easily resize it.
