So, the girlie had to have some surgery, and she's Franken-dog.
She is missing a bit of her ear, and has a big scar down her inner thigh--that she was licking compulsively.
Solution: Old foam pillow + scrap fabric=soft dog "cone".

She didn't like it at first:

But eventually she gave up and took a nap:

So far, it's stayed on all last night, and all day today.
Hooray!

Aww what a BEAUTY!

Is she a white boxer?

My babies have only used the plastic Elizabethan collar.  This looks very comfy.

How creative!  It has to be tons more comfortable than the plastic collar they normally use.

Aw, poor doggie!

My dog hates her cone. Way to go for finding your own solution.

what a good idea. Not only are those white Elizabethan collars uncomfy, they make so much noise! My dog was constantly scraping and banging hers into everything. Everytime she walked by our flat screen TV, my husband would shriek and cringe. This is a fabulous solution. Smiley good job!

and your doggie is gorgeous. Smiley

Wish I'd thought of that 3 years ago when our dear stupid Lab decided to chase cows and got major stitches as a result. He figured out a odd spot in the hall that he could use to wiggle out of the cone & would lick, and lick, and lick... Sad My solution at the time was about 4 extra layers of that semi sticky bandage stuff in the horse size.

Aww--thanks y'all. Necessity was the mother of invention. The vet was closed, and we didn't have a plastic cone, and I have to say that this seems MUCH better. The one other time she had to have a cone, it was basically her all-day, every day project to get it off. Just constant furniture rubbing and head smashing.

JeepChick--She's a pitbull with a very square face. But she's a bit of a mystery special. Who knows, maybe there's a boxer in there somewhere.

I have often thought there should be a better solution than those horrid plastic cones. Yours actually looks like it would be relatively comfortable. You have a lucky dog!

Thats great!  I have been looking at soft e-collars for Zoe's upcoming spay, and thinking I could make my own.  And you proved it was possible!  I will definitely be trying one of my own soon.
