Magnetic hemalites, gunmetal (color) seeds was used.

I craved dreamcicles when making this set.  I used White, pale yellow, and pale peach seeds. The focal beads are flat glass with a painted irridescent side.

close up of earring

Here is the tute, hope ya have not given up on me??   Roll Eyes

TUTORIAL

I call this my crystal ball earrings.  You can do any size bead.  The earrings are done with 6 mm round moonstone beads surrounded by seed beads.  The dangling bottom bead is small oval bead (mine has stars on it, keeping with the magical crystal ball theme.  Wink )
I used black  nymo beading thread to blend in with the seeds and so you can see easier how to get them started.

Needle thru bead leaving 6" tail (to hold onto)
Needle back thru bead 2 times leaving thread on both sides like this.

Repeat again so that this foundation thread is 2 threads thick on both sides.

String 2 seeds, insert needle under threads (of one side) pull taut.  Insert needle up thru 2nd bead like shown.

String one seed, needle back under thread, pull taut.  Needle up thru bead, pull taut.

Repeat this till reaching the end of one side.....

When you reach the end of one side, skip over the hole and start down other side like before.

When reaching the end (do not worry if more beads are on one side than the other, when I try to keep same amount it ends up too crowded.) Needle back down first bead to join, pull taut, needle back up last bead to begin next row.

First row complete.
Needle under thread just to the left of hole where thread began.
Second row:

String 3 seeds, needle from front to back in thread "loop" just to the left where began.  Pull thread taut, needle back up last bead, pull taut.

String 2 seeds, needle under next thread, pull taut.  Needle back up last bead.  Continue this step stringing 2 seeds at a time all the way around.

When reaching last thread, thread one bead, needle back down 1st bead to join.
There you have it, a seed bead framed focal bead!!  Many many achievable ways to join these, but for these earrings, I needle back down and back up to exit near hole (since bead choice is "clear") in center outside bead (centered with hole) Thread 5 seeds, needle back in starting center seed to form small loop for connecting earring hook.  I secure by needling around loop few times.  Needle thread thru seeds and back down thru focal bead hole coming out of bottom.  Thread 3 seeds, one small oval bead, and 3 more seeds.  Needle back up oval bead (skipping last 3 seeds)
VOILA'   Grin

Tips: When you change the colors in the seeds like in my "orange sherbet set" you can see it gives a whole new look.   Cool  By having one side with one more seed then the other side, it helps center the top loop and dangles better too.

I love the sunburst effect that you achieved with the brick stitch.  I think this is one of my favorite things I have seen using this stitch.  Thanks for sharing!

After you string the first two beads, you will needle back UP the SECOND bead. (after needling UNDER thread that is)  I hope I helped you!  Look at the pics real good, I tried to take pics step by step.
Good luck!!

What a fun project! Thanks for posting this tutorial, especially with such great pictures! Smiley I gave brick stitch a try for the first time, and came up with some cute earrings. I'm trying to figure out how to post a pic directly from my iPhone...

I'm curious though, how do you hide the ends of your threads? I kinda weaved them in and clipped them as short as I could, but you can kind of see the end poking out between beads. Only if you're looking for it, probably, but I just wondered if there was a better way. Smiley

kabili--I weave the thread through the previous stitches.  Since I use nylon thread, I burn the end so the thread cannot pass back through the bead hole.  If not using nylon thread, just weave till the needle will not pass anymore and trim close.

Thanks craftsters!
