My sister recently got published and as a book launch party, we did a Vampire High School Dance.  The book is a vampire jr./sr. high type deal.

We rented a patio room and transformed it with red and black decorations.  Here's some of the pics:

The room beforehand: very blah, kinda icky.

We rented chair linens and scarves and I got to tie them a LOT of them!

The Prize Table - Heather (my sis) got people to donate things like shirts, hats, wine, jewelry...all vampire themed:

The prize table with prizes:

The wine bottles were jazzed up with a bit of red or black ribbon and a button from her book:

Shot of room mostly done - my daughter getting last minute directions:

All around the room was a big icky beam, my BIL covered it with black and white tulle layered with red christmas lights - the effect was fantastic in the end.  To cover a doorway we put up a "blood" curtain.

The cake was picked up for only $60 - the book cover on the cake and it was a "bloody" cake - red velvet!

Some of our vampy guests (all guests were requested to dress either as vamps or at least in red and black):

The author herself at the book table, we bought candies with her logo and book title on them - 2000 of them for only $200!  Plus a bowl of candy kisses - cuz she wanted them. Grin

A semi-decent shot of the tables: centerpieces were black lacy spiderwebs with black glasses/red candles and a black and white pic of a famous vampire - everyone from her creation to Count Chocula! (my daughter and nephew)

I know that was a lot, but that's some basics.  I have loads more and will try to come back and post more - the party was much better than we expected!

Thanks vegan! Grin

It was so much fun, we never thought we'd pull it off.LOL  The general manager told us that it looked better than most of the wedding receptions they have in there.

I did get a book signed for me - I'm even named in the Acknowledgments section! Shocked

Every person that came in got a door prize ticket and for every book you purchased you got another ticket.  I ended up winning a $50 gift certificate for a jewelry place.  I'll have to come back and post the name - she does interesting pieces.

Congrats to her!  Someone at the Wench's Guild had a book on Vampires published recently, and she was very excited.  I can imagine how happy your sis was!

So I gotta know - as someone not in the industry - what happens at a book launch party?  Is it the day the book is released?  Is it free?  Does the author pay for it?  How would you get invited to something like that?   Or is it friends and family only, like an open house?   I ask because that looks like FUN!!

That, and inquiring minds want to know.  The room looks FANTASTIC!!

Generally a book launch party is by invitation only.  We had friends, family of both sides (sis & BIL) and some industry people.  We had this one 2 days after the book was released - it came out on a Thursday.  We did have a book seller there too.  Yes, the author pays for it unless she can con someone else into it. Wink  It is loads of fun!!!

That looks just fantastic!

I dream of someday publishing some young adult vamp fiction myself, so it's even better for me to see Cheesy

I love the famous vamps on the tables... hehe... Count Chocula. . .
