hola!  i'm new to crafster and have been having so much fun looking around at all the great ideas, so i thought i'd share something i made last summer

the table is from a flea market, and i get most of my mosaic materials by smashing and tile nipping plates i buy at goodwill (it's quite fun hehe).  i also got kinda experimental and used some foreign coins from the flea market, and class circular decorations i'd bought at the craft store.
then i used mastic to attach everything to the surface (which i sand down a bit, first), let it dry, and then grout (sanded grout works best) and wipe off.  i added blue paint to the grout to snazz it up, and spray painted the table to match after.

even tho the pics are taken outside, it's an indoor table!  i've never mosaic'd anything for the outdoors before, although that's my next project...

voila!  any questions let me know (:

I love the little glass fish in there. How long does a project like this take? How do you deal with the grout at the edges?

Awesome table!

the table took me about a week total.
it breaks down kinda like this...
-first day i smashed the plates and got together all the other little glass and coin things i'd collected up.
-second day i used the mastic to attach all to the table
-grouting took a few days, i did each section at a time (this is the most time consuming part - and yeah, the edges get really frustrating!  i basically just kind of covered everything, and then used an old t-shirt to whipe off the extra from the tiles and around the edges.  using old cotton t-shirt material works best, paper towels and kitchen sponges are a baaaaaad idea.  i've heard that there are special sponges for this kind of thing, which i'm gonna try on my next project...)
-and the last day was spray painting the table and sealing the surface.

hope that helps!  (:

the little glass fish i got at World Over Imports which is basically the weird Maine version of Pier 1 Imports... i'm not sure if Pier 1 would have them or not, but a craft store might?  or ebay!  ebay always rocks.  they also make stars and flowers and other cute little shapes.
