Something unusual for discerning tastes

Ok, I'm pretty new here, and my craftiness is pretty specific, and sometimes pretty strange/obscure.  But, I do have one project I have a picture of.  I loved it, it turned out exactly like I wanted it to.  I warn you, it is odd.





These are, in case you couldn't tell, Pale Green Pants with Nobody Inside Them.  I made them for my little sister for her 25th birthday, out of a pair of 6mo pants my daughter had just outgrown.  I used a piece of aluminum wire in the waistband, and then soaked it in liquid porcelain.  I molded and shaped pieces of aluminum foil around plastic bags (for bulk) and stuffed them in until I had the shape right, then let them harden.  And this is what I got.

In case you wonder, the pale green pants with nobody inside them are from a story by Dr. Seuss called "What Was I Scared Of?," which was one of my sisters favorite stories when we were growing up.

I hadn't seen much in the way of sculptural pieces, so thought I'd add this in.

way to go lothruin! these are the ABSOLUTE bomb! i LOVE dr. seuss - i painted my daughter room with all the characters from wocket in my pocket when she was little and she won't let me paint over them (thank god - lol)

I don't know where my mother got the liquid procelain, but in our town, there are only so many options.  It was either Michaels, Joann's, Hancocks or Hobby Lobby.  It is basically just a fabric stiffener, but can be used for mending porcelain as well, I think.  She used it to create these adorable tiny fabric ball gown  ornaments.  So we know it works great with tightly woven fabrics like satin, and loosely woven fabrics like tulle.  The pants were a cotten knit, and we had to water down the porcelain a little, because they sucked it right up and we didn't want to use the whole bottle.

They are spooky, but the story is about a pair of pale green pants with nobody inside them that follows this guy around and scares the bejeesus out of him, and then he decides to confront the pants and figures out they are as afraid of him as he is of them, and they become friends.  Ok, its Dr. Seuss, and when condensed like that sounds pretty strange, but I swear, its a great story when you're 8.  So, since the story is kinda spooly, so should be the pants, eh?  My sister has them hanging from a plant hook in her apartment so her cat doesn't kill them, which she says makes them extra spooky...

Oooh.  Hmm.  I didn't put anything on it once it was dry.  Maybe I should instruct my also-crafty sister to put a coat of gloss finish on them.  Of course, they do look more natural the way they are, but hmm...
