My dd last year as baby Frida Kahlo, based loosely (very loosely) on the book by Jonah Winter (Frida).  No one quite knew what to make of here when we were trick-or-treating.  I had no idea that early 20th century Mexican women painters were so obscure.

BTW, she loved this costume so much, she still wears it as an everyday dress.  I'm going to have to add another ruffle soon, because it's a little scandalous anymore.

I would have known who your daughter was dressed as seeing as how Diego Rivera(her husband) is one of my favorite painters. I bet people thought she was the unibrow baby form the simpsons! lol

Thanks, guys!  I had several people say, "Oh, are you a Halloween Princess?"  to which my sweet 2 yo replied, "NO!  I'm Fweedah Kahwo!"  As if they were asking the most asinine question in the world.  hehe.  Not pictured here is her monkey and skully stuffies.  She wouldn't carry them while working the rubes for candy.

the hat/baby is so cute, did you use a pattern (for the hat)?

there's a mostly words/not enough pictures tutorial that i already posted on craftster. i want to make a better tute with pics, but haven't had time... we were moving and my camera had disappeared when i was asked for the tute originally...

I love the baby Frida, that's adorable!

I will have to find the CD that has all my pictures from my old laptop on it and upload the pictures of my munchkin from last year, I made him a "Blue Slime" costume from the video game "Dragon Quest".  We went with a Dragon Quest theme for the whole family and I made all the costumes.

Here's baby jack and i last year - he was supposed to be a monkey but screamed when we put him in the costume.  and i worked so hard on it, too!  this was a "people are starting to ring the doorbell what should we do for a costume" costume!  dh and i were spiderwebs for our liitle spider!  (sorry, no pic of daddy)

luckily, the monkey still fits him this year and he loves it now - so here he is in all his glory!
