I haven't been here for a while as I am trying to get things back to normal sending three pumpkins to school and trying to keep the little one entertained while they are there. Anyways, I am looking for some ideas for Halloween and I thought it might be a good idea to share. We are really into POTC around here so that has been the theme for Halloween for the last 2 years. My costume was store bought because, as usual I did not have time to create anything for myself. Anyways, I hope you have the time to share.

G.
The characters my costumes where based on.

My little Will Turner, even though he claims he is THE Jack Sparrow!

Elizabeth Swann, who told me this year she will have nothing to do with pirates, and Will Turner.

And last but not least my Jack Sparrow and me(don't laugh). My husband really got into this role and won a few Halloween costume contests.

Removed since, in all fairness this is a sewing for kids forum but you can see it in my avatar.

The smurfs idea would be awsome. But I am too tall to be a smurfette. And I dont know if my husband would go for that anymore, even though while we where dating I conviced him to be Buckwheat of the Little Rascals but everyone though he was a troll. LOL!

I handcrafted a strawberry shortcake costume for my daughter about five years ago (it helped that she has curly red hair), complete with custard the cat in a basket and the poofy hat. That same year I created a teenaged mutant ninja turtle costume for my son complete with padded felt shell, nunchuks (he was Michaelangelo), 'turtle hand' gloves and the face mask.

I heart the eighties.

Last year dds were Winnie the Pooh & Piglet.  DH was Christopher Robin.  Given that the only female in WtP is Kanga & I REALLY didn't want to dress up as an animal much less a kangaroo, I was Tinkerbell.

This year dds are going to be Wicket & Ewok village Leia.  DH & I are going to be Han Solo & Death Star Leia.

For the last two years my dd was Minnie Mouse.  I got the fabric on Ebay and used a Simplicity Daisy Kingdom pattern.  The ears were from the Disney store.  I loved this dress, she wants to wear it this year too, but sadly it no longer fits!  Here is a picture from last year, as you can see it is a little bit tight, but we made it fit for a second time Grin

I made my son Larryboy one year, he was absolutely obsessed at that time, so there wasn't really much question on what he wanted to be

Here are all three of my boys from last year. The youngest is Fester Addams, I wish I had a picture of him with his light up lightbulb in his mouth.
My middle one is a Men In Black the next pic shows him with his "flashy thing" that really lit up.
My oldest was Luigi, can you tell it's cold where I live, they are all pretty bundled up and it was a warmer year.

Here's my middle one with his flashy thing. He had more fun with that.

This was a sort of failed attempt. My son wanted to be a zombie with an axe in his head, but the school wouldn't allow it, so last minute he decided he'd be a qtip for the school party.

This time my youngest was a garbage can. He looked like a normal garbage can and would just sit and wait, then popped up and scared the heck out of people.

Devil niece, Demon on the far right, garbage can in the middle, and zombie with an axe in his head

That's all of them that I have on my computer or already online.
When my youngest was a year he was a spider, and we'd get him to crawl around and all of his legs would move, that was quite cool.
My oldest was a working lightbulb once.

Seeing as this area is for sewing kids clothing, I assumed that we would be sticking to kids or family themed/oriented costumes. I'm not trying to be a poo or anything, but there is a Halloween section for Halloween costumes. Just my 2 cents.

Oh my gosh!  This thread is full of  awww and cuteness overload.  Those children look so awesomely happy.  Oh to be a child again and have such awesome parents...  .:*sigh*:.

Why wasn't he allowed to wear an axe in school?  I mean, its fake! I dislike creative censorship. (._.)

Last year my toddler was Tinkerbell:

Still waiting for her to make up her mind on this year's costume--so far she's wanted to be a tiger, princess, kangaroo, or elephant. . .My sis says I should dress her and her little sis as white tigers, and DH and I could go as Siegfried and Roy.  Tongue

Love the Tinkerbell costume.  What a cutie!  Great job on the costume too.

This is probably the cheapest costume I'll ever do.

Last October we had NO money.  I really enjoying doing costumes and was disappointed that I couldn't do much.  A coworker helped me come up with this cheap costume which was a hit.

I spent $2 for 2 pairs of black socks from the dollar store.  DD had this outfit of a black top and pants which actually had white and pink cats on them, but I turned them inside out. I cut off the legs of a pair of support pantyhose which fit perfectly around her waist.  Using a piece of cardboard from a pizza box as a brace inside the support part of the pantyhose, I stuffed each sock with packing peanuts, threaded each one through the pantyhose and cardboard and voila, a spider!

DD as a spider.

Here she is throwing a fit on the floor, but you can see the arms a little better.

I wanted to thread the arms together so they would move when she did, but I ran out of time.  I think it would have bothered her anyway, but I was still pleased with the results.

it's funny that kids want to go as household items , foil and q-tip!

We're plannig this for this year:
son (3) peter pan
Daughter (1) tinkerbell
me as wendy
hubby as captain hook

My problem is that last year halloween was so very very cold my daughter was in a fleece bumble bee costume and was cold! Tinker bell might be just too cold! even if I layer the top with long sleeves and get some thick tights! any suggestions?

Here's my plans for making the costumes:

peter: felt top layered with a dark brown long sleeve shirt for warmth over brown sweats. add a dagger and a "belt" oh yeah and a felt hat

wendy: a blue nightgown (basically a long peasant top (i'll either layer clothes under neath or make it long sleeved)

Tink: big fluffy tutu with the fairy wings tutorial found here:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=146985.0
to make her warmer I'll probably put in in "baby legs"

Cpt hook: white scarf, big jacket (i'll have to see what I can find at good will) black pants stuffed into white knee high socks, felt hat and a sword

1 year old - Hobbit  Look at his little hairy feet!

3 years old - A knight in shining armor.  Apparently he'd just lost.

4 years old - Wizard

Do you see a theme here?  Cheesy  This year we're going in a different geeky direction.  He's going as the Green Lantern.

My dd last year as baby Frida Kahlo, based loosely (very loosely) on the book by Jonah Winter (Frida).  No one quite knew what to make of here when we were trick-or-treating.  I had no idea that early 20th century Mexican women painters were so obscure.

BTW, she loved this costume so much, she still wears it as an everyday dress.  I'm going to have to add another ruffle soon, because it's a little scandalous anymore.

I love the baby Frida, that's adorable!

I will have to find the CD that has all my pictures from my old laptop on it and upload the pictures of my munchkin from last year, I made him a "Blue Slime" costume from the video game "Dragon Quest".  We went with a Dragon Quest theme for the whole family and I made all the costumes.

Here's baby jack and i last year - he was supposed to be a monkey but screamed when we put him in the costume.  and i worked so hard on it, too!  this was a "people are starting to ring the doorbell what should we do for a costume" costume!  dh and i were spiderwebs for our liitle spider!  (sorry, no pic of daddy)

luckily, the monkey still fits him this year and he loves it now - so here he is in all his glory!
