Hi, my 8 yo daughter wants to be a giraffe for halloween.  At least she's giving me plenty of notice.

Any ideas on how to create this?  I was thinking about a tall hat, it could be the neck and then head on top.

I love any thoughts you might have!

The tall hat idea would work, or making part of her body be the neck too (she'd be more noticeable with the tall hat, something you might want to point out to her). Is she going to be a "standing like a person" giraffe, or are you going to try to make it look like she's on all fours?  The old Toys R Us mascot costumes might be a place to start (though frankly, it took me a while as a kid to figure out it was a giraffe).

This is the only thing that I can think of
(note: I did not draw the giraffe, only the face of the child)

i realize halloween is only in like 4 days but if you didn't figure it out, you could always just not bother with the neck and justgive her the head? make a giraffe hat for instance Smiley

I saw a guy with a solution to this, today. He was going as a flamingo, actually.

the bird body was from the waist down, and he had a stuffed cloth tube coming out about stomach level for the neck. it reconnected at about his neck, and his head was the flamingo head. he was dressed in a grey shirt behind the neck-thing.

yellow clothing covereved with brown felt patches and a 2D giraffe neck/ head attached to a broom hanndle. paint it entirely yellow then cover with more felt patches. you can make the mane and tail from brown wool
