These are lovely!  They look very cosy. 

I like knitting in self-striping yarn too, it is a great motivator to see the next colour appear. 

I shall check out the pattern you used too, as I have never (shock, horror) knitted toe-up socks!

I've never tried cuff-down! With toe-up, I like that I can knit the foot, knit the heel, and then just keep going and stop whenever I feel like it. Also I love the cast-on for toe-up. I'd be interested to hear you opinions between the two methods.
