I've been sewing my first grader (Ro) a new pair of shorts every day this week because he has shot up and his old ones were starting to resemble hot pants.  The first two pairs are made from Charlie Rocket fabric that my friend and I got in L.A.  We made a special trip because a friend had bought the woodies fabric and I coveted it.  Then I fell in love with the patchie fabric too.

Ro and I are loving these elasticated knit waistbands.  Easy, look sharp and are super comfy to wear according to Ro.

The pirate outfit started as two stripey ladies shirts from the thrift store. He and I picked them out.  Nice thick stretchy knit that had washed up nicely.  He is into pirates so it was an obvious choice.  I finished the outfit last night after he was in bed and when he tried it on the sleeves were a little on the shorter side (I used the sleeves from the shirt and they weren't very big).  Not terrible but no growing room, so this morning before the bus left I unpicked the original hem and attached a coordinating cuff.

Your son is absolutely adorable  Cheesy
And it's even better knowing how much care and effort was put into what he's wearing ^^
I really love the first shorts XD If they were waterproof, I could see myself buying a pair of boardshorts like that for swimming ^^;

Those are really great, and a great choice of fabric.  I love the first ones the best.  And your son's eyes are positively gorgeous!  :-)

These are great outfits, but what wouldn't look great on your son (those blue eyes!)? I love love love the pirate stripe outfit, I am impressed that you have made me want to sew something for our future son (currently in the adoption process). Normally boys clothes are so blah, but you have inspired me!

Oh, and how did you do the elastic waistbands? They look super comfy.

I too think you have an adorable son, and I too think these are soo cute!
I'm interested in the knit waistband...
my 3 yr old is still a little chubs, so that looks like something that would be very comfy for her especially as pants season is approaching...did you use a tute for that?
Do you want to share! Smiley

I really love the pirate theme!

Oh, and I am sure you child appreciates that you didn't subject him to wearing hot pants.  Smiley
