Modeled by the ever helpful but unfortunately not baby-sized helper monkey.

So I got the crazy idea to make a baby bonnet for Evie that looked like Princess Leia.  As I lie awake at night wishing for sleep these are the strange things that go through my head.  A few days later and we have her Princess Leia Baby Bonnet.

Pattern: My Own, Ill try to write it out if anyone is interested.

Yarn: Vannas Choice in chocolate.  Since it was a trial I dont mind using leftover acrylic yarn.

Needles: Size 6 straights and size 4 DPNs for the buns.

Tied with a ribbon but I think I prefer an i-cord.

Closeup on the blog, as always if anyone cares.

That is SO cute! What an interesting idea! I don't know who I'd make it for ... no babies anywhere that I know of in our family ... but, it sure would be a conversation piece when you take the baby (would have to be a girl!) out for a walk!

Hmmmm, wonder if they make that yarn in blonde hair color?

Viki: Luckily I am having a girl!  I don't think I'd recommend making this in Vanna's Choice, maybe something softer for lil baby head, but there is a mustard that might work for blonde.

littlepunkkitty:  thanks, it's super simple, I'll try to write it down.

MADIMO: thanks!  And I'll tell my husband you like his monkey (wow that sounds dirty).  Helper monkey is my only real model till my baby girl gets here.  Should be soon, thank goodness!

Grin AH so freakin' cute!! I just made a Star Wars baby hoodie for my Star Wars obsessed best friend and her new wee Padawan. I was thinking to myself, what a cool idea a Leia baby hat would be but alas I have no talent for creating patterns, and  then you post this!! AWESOME! so PLEASE post a pattern!

Oh so cute!  I'd love to see a pattern, if you've got the time!  My son wants to be Luke skywalker for Halloween, and it would be so cute if his little sister was Princess Leia!

I really would be more than happy to share how I did it, it's not difficult at all. (and bigpurpleblanket, I think it would be easily moded into adult size).

BUT it was a trial and I'm not sure the sizes and what it will fit.  All I know for now is that it fits little helper monkey's head.  Maybe a few of you want to help me test out the pattern before I put it out there and confuse a lot of people?  Unfortunately I STILL don't have a baby to try it out on.  At the most I'll only have to wait 17 more days though.

Anyways, let me know if you want to be a tester?  I'll work on the pattern this week.

Thanks a lot for all the great comments everyone, I needed the lift!

Thanks for the link Cougar!  Neat!

Anyone who wants to be a tester please email me at hend.lind at yahoo dot com

I will try to get the pattern written out this week (been a busy weekend) but the baby may decide to be born this week or next so... fair warning!  Actually, I'd rather have the baby than the pattern, you know how it is.

And once again, thanks for all the wonderful words of encouragment!

My Yorkie looks like an ewok, so I was going to dress him up as one and my nephew as Luke Skywalker. Now I'll have to make this for his baby sister and complete the set!

Sorry I hadn't gotten the pattern straightened out, on September 6th Evie was unexpectedly born at home.  No kidding.  I woke up at 6am to contractions that weren't any different than what I had been having and by 730am she was born in the bathroom.  Interesting to say the least.  At least we got to ride in an ambulance?

Then she was WAY smaller than I assumed (based on how big my boys were) so my free hand time, limited as it is, was spent making teeeeeeeny baby hats since even the store bought ones were too big.  She is pretty much premie sized!

The good news is I now have a baby to test sizes out on!

I'd post photos and such but I don't think this is the place for that.  Stop by my blog and look at the 3 hour old baby monkey.  Luckily she's a lot cuter now.

I will get this pattern out to you all just as soon as I can!
