I've been trying and trying to make these "flat" like you have here. But they always end up cone shaped. (they would stick off my head too far) how did you make them so flat?

Mine was cone shaped too. When you finish making the cone shaped rose just take a pair of very sharp scissors and cut the tip off. Then add some more duct tape to the now flat base to make it smoother and strengthen it. During this last step you can also add metal wire, elastics, hair pin or whatever you want to stick to your rose.

for making the duct tape pieces square i have actually used my cutting mat, rotory cutter and my guide and i got perfect pieces same size and with the brand of tape i was using sorry dont remember store brand the tape came off without to much of an issue
