I made this portable Altar for a friend of mine:

The box is actually a box that SA got Hershey Kisses in at Christmas time - it was  a very sturdy cardboard, so I coated it in about three layers of white spray paint, then decopaged on the celtic fabric.

Inside:

Decopaged on Chinese symbol paper.

I also made this to go with it:

just a fairy hot glued to a seashell.

Here's all the insides:

missing from the photo is an altar cloth I made out of purple fabric, and a painted wooden bucket.

I thought it was going to be more like a cigar-box shrine to something in particular (I have those on the brain right now); I really like YOUR idea, though, of having everything for an altar or impromptu-creation-of-sacred-space together in a portable container. Could definitely be customized, too, for a person's specific belief system. Well done!

I'm living/working in Yosemite Nat'l Park til further notice! Blogging about it here. No swapping for me, and minimal crafting time, for the coming months. Almost done with library school! That sums things up for now.

Thanks! I made mine for someone who I knew was Pagan, but I wasn't sure what "flavour", so I tried to incorporate several into it.  I semi based it off of a celtic druid type of altar, but yeah, it would be easy to incorporate whatever you wanted, and decorate differently.

I'm more happy that I managed to re-use a hershey kiss box my friend was going to toss out!

I really like this idea, it's portable, and it's self-enclosed for when it's not in use (great way to keep out the pesky cats)! Smiley
I think I'll have to find a box to make one!
Thanks for the idea.

you're welcome Smiley

Just take a look at the types of boxes you have laying around - a few coats of spray paint and mod podge will strengthen most boxes up.  A shoe box might even work, if you wanted something a little larger.
