OH MY GOD IT'S EATING MY HEAD

I suffer from the Curse of the Single Skein. Oh, you know what this is. You see a yarn that you want to try out, and then you go and buy one skein of it, because surely that's enough yarn to do anything you want! Except it totally isn't.

I picked up a ball of Plymouth Royal Bamboo just to see what knitting with bamboo is like. Yeah, one ball. BECAUSE I NEVER LEARN. So I designed and knit up a headband with it, because what else can I do with 93 yds of yarn?

Answer to the "what's knitting with bamboo like?" question: hrmph. It's splitty and inelastic and I think it tried to eat some wool when I wasn't looking. But it also has a nice sheen and good stitch definition and is really soft. So I rather like the product, if not the process.

More pics in this blog entry. (Including one with a very creepy stuffed cat!)

I wrote up the pattern and here it is. It's a really really quick knit, and fairly easy. If anyone makes one, please let me know if you have any problems with the pattern. It was my first time trying to write a chart, and I didn't know how to write charts, and I still don't really know how to write charts, even after writing that one, so, um... beware the chart. Grin

Er, and let me know if there are any errors, and I'll get them corrected immediately. There shouldn't be, but... I had to edit the pattern right after I posted it because I forgot to include the number of stitches to cast on. Seriously. I can't brain today, I have the dumb.

*smacks brain*

Ow, my brain...

I just finished a project with bamboo yarn, and I really liked it. It is splitty and inelastic, as you say, but I was kinda expecting it. Also, having worked with DB Cathay before, I figure it could have been worse.

Like you, I love the fabric you get with bamboo yarn. Gorgeous.

I have nearly one ball of bamboo left, and I'd been wondering what to do with it...

I can't brain today, I have the dumb.

Would it offend/irritate you if I someday put that on a t-shirt? Not to sell, just to wear. Because that's easily the greatest phrase I have ever heard (read).

Also, I think I just found my in-flight project for my trip this week. I NEED a cabled headband Cheesy

I just purchased several single skeins trying to see if I liked the yarn, but I wasn't sure what to knit with them.  I really like this pattern, so I might try it out.  It looks great!

Thanks all! Glad you like the pattern. I am all dorkily excited that other people want to make one. Grin Yay for little instant-gratification projects!

Hee, it's not my phrase! I think I got it from numerous cat macros. It really is a very useful phrase some days...

Thats really nice! I haven't knit with bamboo yet, but I have spun it and it is a pain. But the results are amazing. I love how soft it is!

Hey there, I decided to make one of these and here's my progress pics. (Sorry they're kind of blurry, new cam, way too much camera for me. :p)

I used white yarn 'cause I wear a lot of blue jeans and t-shirts, so it'll let me wear it on a regular basis without finding something specific to wear with it.

Thanks again for the pattern, it's awesome, I haven't run into any issues (which is pretty awesome, I'm very, very, very, very easily confused. Wink

Ooh, that's so cool that you're making one, Mienna! Hee, my brain still has the dumb, because I looked at your pics and Dumb Brain went "hey, that looks just like yours!" Um. Of course it does. At least, I should hope that it does, otherwise I did something wrong with the pattern! Thanks, brain. Grin

Yeah, in retrospect, bright coral probably wasn't the most versatile colour choice for mine (though I still cheerfully wear it with my red shirts and clash horribly). Glad to hear that you're not having any problems with the pattern!

I finally finished it! I sat tonight with my bunnies running around my playing and finished the last few rows. I still have to add some elastic, but I want to get a picture of it while I could still lay it flat.

I too frequently suffer from the COTSS (Cheesy)- I've gotten pretty good at finding stash-busting patterns.  I really like your design!  I'm a hat/headband freak (seriously, you can blame the Panta for that, it started it all) - I'm sure I'll be using your pattern to use of one of my many singles this season!

The other fun thing is finding uses for the little balls of leftovers.  Luckily my two-year-old's feet are small enough that I have an automatic use for leftover sock yarn.  Yesterday I was knitting the most gorgeous strawberries ever out of leftover 100purewool, they really do look delicious.

Thanks for the pattern!!
