What you need:
11 x 11 outer fabric (red)
11 x 11 inner fabric (black)
11 x 4½ ID pocket fabric (black)
11 x 6 passport/ticket fabric (red) - SWOOPY
16 iron-on tape
8 x 4½ cereal box CUT 2 OF THESE
Tape the cardboard cereal box together, leaving about ½ gap. Tape BOTH sides so you cover up the stickiness. Set aside.
Fold the 11 x 4½ ID pocket fabric (black) in half and press with RIGHT SIDES OUT. Set aside.
A. Lay the 11 x 6 passport/ticket fabric (red) RIGHT SIDE DOWN on top of the paper towel.
On the WRONG SIDE of the fabric, draw a line at the center of the fabric. Also draw lines ½ from the top edge and sides. This will be your seam allowance. DRAW the swoopy lines as shown. (The deepest part of my swoop is 1½ from seam line.)
B. Using a BASTING STITCH, sew on the SWOOPY LINES, through both the fabric and paper towel.
C. Cut away excess fabric above the swoop. Follow the curve leaving about Ύ.
D. Cut slits close to the basting stitch about every Ύ. Press with iron.
E. Tear away paper towel and pull out the stitches.
F. Iron on the adhesive tape, following the curve as you go. This does not have to look pretty; it just has to cover the raw edges. You may need to trim the edges, if the tape is not wide enough.
E. Top stitch over the adhesive tape.
A. Lay 11 x 11 inner fabric (black) RIGHT SIDE UP.
B. Lay SWOOPY piece on top, RIGHT SIDE UP.
C. Lay the folded 11 x 4½ ID pocket fabric (black), FOLDED SIDE towards the top and the RAW EDGES at the bottom.
D. Pin the 3 pieces together as shown.
E. Stitch as close to the edge as possible, going through ALL 3 layers. Only stitch the 3 sides, starting at the POINT of the SWOOPY piece. Sew down to the corner, across the bottom, and up to the other POINT of the SWOOPY piece.
The purpose of this step is to create 1 piece of fabric out of all 3.
A. Lay the 2 pieces RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER.
B. Lay the elastic BETWEEN the 2 pieces, top to bottom.
C. Leaving a ½ seam, stitch around 3 sides, leaving the TOP open.
D. Turn and press.
A. Slip the CEREAL BOX inside.
B. Fold the top opening inside and press.
C. Pull the elastic behind the OUTER fabric and tuck it in. Leave it a little loose.
D. Pin and stitch the top closed.
Stitch straight down the middle, from top to bottom. Your stitches should go through the point in the middle of the swoopy piece, as well as the ID pocket. You will also be stitching through the tape between the cardboard cereal box. This will create 2 separate sides in your case, one side for the ticket and one side for your passport.
To close, fold in half. Bring elastic around to the front.
DONE! Fill it up with your ID, PASSPORT, and TICKET. Happy Travels!
