Of course you can join!  Don't take sewalong too literally.  It's more like a "makealong"...lol  or maybe "createalong".

If it's not too late, I'm in.

I've got 3(!) costumes to make this year: my school one, my either harass children loooking for candy or harass my fellow teens by asking for candy one, and my little sisters.  she still hasn't decided yet.

I'm gonna be lazy this year and be a fairy again.  I'm planning on finishing my sketches tomorrow in art class, since nothing else happens.  Wink

Okay,  now that my family has made their various decisions regarding their costumes, I want to join up, too!

My dd, who will turn three a few days before Halloween, is insisting on being a mermaid this year.  Not just any mermaid.  A pink one.  I tried to convince her red and black punk-rock mermaids are all the rage, but apparently she begs to differ with me.  My son, 10, wants to be Danny Zuko from Grease.  Little sewing there, just liberal applications of pomade.

And I have a big gig with my band for our town's annual Halloween ball, so we will all be dressing as a circus troupe. Since we're a rockabilly band, we'll be a pin-up circus troupe.  I'll be the equestrienne/tight-rope walker/sitter-atop-elephants.

I have ordered fabric for all of this, and will be operating mostly pattern-less.  I have an idea of what I want my bodice and hairpiece to look like, but I still haven't made a decision on the skirt.  Tutu?  Drape and bustle?  Hotpants?

I bought some thin satiny looking fabric for my jacket, I figure that way it won't be too hot to wear all night. I haven't found any purple fabric I like yet. I may end up going with a lighter purple stretchy fabric just because it's available. I refuse to pay too much for it. I have this weird "if i can't make it off of walmart's $1 a yard table I shouldn't bother" complex. At least for Halloween anyway.

Cigarettesandvalent ines:   I saw that!  beautiful stuff.   I think I'm leaning more toward a tutu than a draped skirt, just because I like fluff.

After spending hours in fabric stores over the past few days, I finally went back to the first store, and bought the first fur I saw!

I really wanted something with a shorter pile that felt more like a horse, but that stuff only comes in realistic looking animal prints. Or pink cammo apparently. Everything less furry seemed to be stretchy. Even the suede-like stuff I found. So the fur I got is more teddy-bear like, the pile is still pretty short, less than one cm long probably, and it's the most perfectcolour pink I could find to match the hair I already had for the tail.

So here is the tail (which I have since trimmed to shape it better) on top of the fur. (The colours are more similar than they appear in the photo)

I hope I got enough fur - I went for an extra 50cm instead of renewing my sewing club membership. Undecided  I think I will make a vest for the top so I can chose to wear something under it or not.

(Oh and yay Brian Melo just won Canadian Idol as I was typing this, and he's from my town Smiley)

I haven't posted on this since like...forever ago!

Everyone's cotsume ideas are so good! The unicorn, Adrienne de Lafayette, and vintagey-circus...thingie are my favorites in particular!

I haven't done ANYTHING with my costume, but I did buy some floral fabric for my faux-underbust-bodice. I felt that a small break-up of pink gingham was called for.

Awesome, a costume sew-a-long!  I'll have to read the rest of the thread and come back later... but I'm in for this.  Smiley  I've technically already finished my costume, but still have Babygirl's coordinating costume to do.  We're going to be Wilma and Pebbles Flintstone.  Cheesy
