My parents are making me write a little creative writing every day, and the problem is..I have no idea what to write! It's driving me crazy!

So, I'm asking you to help me with two things:

1. How do you deal with writer's block?

2. Give me some topics to write about!

Thanks so much!!! Smiley

Ack, lucky. I never do any creative writing anymore, not even in school because my teacher completely neglects it  Angry But I do adore writing art history essays (and poetry ones), so maybe if you start something more "factual" like that it could help open things up? I find that whatever I write, my style comes through.

I used to have a bunch of links saved but they appear to have been lost way back with my old computer, but googling "writing prompts" will get you loads of results. The ideas are usually pretty dull but again, one thing could lead to another...

I like putting together names and creating characters too (although I've moved on to doing that through painting, it seems). So, embarrassingly, I love baby name websites, heh.

You could pick random interviews and answer them like you were your character.

You could also look at paintings or pictures for inspiration, like on Flickr or something. Or you could pick an old or unusual (famous) painting, and write a story about the the situation, people, theme...(sorry, I like art Tongue) But hopefully some of that will help a little!

They make TONS of writing books that feature a gagillion writing prompts. I took ONE creative writing class since college, but some of these prompts are really great to get my artwork going when I have a drought of ideas. I'm looking through the book to that class right now...
Lots of the prompts involve taking something you already know, stories from your life, and having them happen to someone else. I remember in class the professor had us right about the first experience we had with swimming...since this is Florida.

Try going to www.xenith.net. It always really helps inspire me to read other people's writing. Smiley Good luck.

these themes are originally for ATCs, or art work, but they'd work great with writing too.

you could choose a number each day and write about the subject?

I personally love meaningful words.. moody words.. my recent fave is nostalgia.. If I think of a word like this, I write it down and intend to base a piece of art on that word.

actually.. in addition to what I've said before.. keep a little note book, and write down everything and anything that inspires you... words, songs, pieces of art... a person...

If I think of a sentence I like.. that could be used in a song or poem, I'll write it down and come back to it after a while.

I think it's great that your parents are geting you to do this.. man I wish my parents had done that!

I see you've already started on that ATC list... maybe you could make an ATC to reflect each piece of creative writing relating to the list??

again.. hope I helped!!

would love to see some of the writing too Cheesy
