Oh please, please write a pattern for it.  My friends son has dreadlocks & has been wanting something exactly like this.  AS you say, we found plenty of crocheted ones but no knit ones.  I taught my friend to knit a year ago & she has been wanting to make one for him ever since.

Ooh nice tam! I've been thinking of making one for my dreads since I got them 2 years ago. Have you checked out the dreadlock thread? I think there's a recipe for a tam somewhere in the billions of posts...
