Here is yet another smock that I designed and made for my potter friend Rachel. This is some great Urban Chicks fabric that she picked out.  I used store-bought bias tape and vintage buttons.  I'm making towels with matching borders and corner buttonholes to button onto the smock's buttons for keeping things clean!

The Back

The Pockets

The Vintage Buttons

That's neat, and a great fabric, too!  Did you cut out the birds ad attach them to the brown, or was it coordinated already with the blue?

Thanks everyone!  The fabric has birds on it that coordinates with the pocket fabric.  Not sure where she got it.  I'll ask her if I think of it!  I'm sure you can find it online.

Smock (garment) A coat-like outer garment, often worn to protect the clothes. -Wikipedia

I know it's thought of often as an 'Artist's Smock', but while my friend Rachel does wear hers while making her pottery, she also pretty much wears her smocks ALL day long around her farm and studio.

She uses the deep pockets to collect her chickens' eggs!  I think that's a grand use for them!!!   Kiss

Thanks for the compliments!

wow. i'd be too afraid to wear that beautiful smock while crafting/painting/etc seeing as how by the time im done with a project, there is more glue and paint on me than on the actual project.

Glad you all like it!

Hi Micol! *waves*

This smock is beautiful, more like jaw dropping beautiful. You are such a fantastic seamstress, always choosing the best fabrics and adding gorgeous details to all of your aprons. I want one! :]

*Blush!*  That's so sweet, thanks!  My friend actually picked out this fabric, but if I had seen if first, I certainly would have chosen it!  I seem to find the red version of the main fabric on-line now, but can't find the brown with blue birds.  If you see any, let me know, will ya?

Thanks again!

RecycleMicol  I just came across your post in a search for a smock pattern and it is gorgeous!
I've been looking for something like it - I took a tank style dress and cut the back to overlap and it came out ok but yours is exactly the look that I wanted.
This is how my "smock dress" came out

Is there any chance that you'd be willing to your share your pattern?

Thanks!  Your smock is really cute, too cycler!   You can PM me if you're interetsed in the pattern.

Only because this is in the rules:   Readers - if you see something you are curious about purchasing, PM the original poster and inquire to them.  Do not post on the thread.

This isn't a new rule, so don't be shocked if you violate it and receive PMs from us as we edit or delete applicable posts.

For now, I would suggest getting a store-bought pattern, narrowing the back pieces where they curve and designing your own pockets like mine or however you'd like.  (I don't like the amount of fabric that goes around your tush on the typical smock patterns.)

High-Five!

Oh, no!  Please don't misunderstand...It was more MY reply that I was concerned about rather than your question.  I'm flattered that you asked!  Most times I would have said, 'Sure...I can swap you for the pattern' or 'it's on my blog' or whatever, but for the first time I'm having to wait on the copyright people and all of that good stuff before I give out any more information about it.

No worries!  You're good!

This is the second great potter's smock I have seen tonight!  I am a very messy potter myself, I think I might make one like this... I really like the back!

That is so adorable I'd be afraid to throw pots in it.  (Of course I can't throw a thing without being *covered* in clay).

I'm having a major case of fabric lust--where did your friend get it?

Well...my friend found the fabric in a local antique/curio shop in her small town!  And I STILL have been unable to find any in stock on on-line sites!  Just too crazy!  Someone must have bought all of it up?!?

If someone scores some, email me...as I may make an exception to my self-imposed swap hiatus.

Later!
