I finished my first lace project, this past weekend. I actually started it in March, got through about half of the repeats of the 2nd chart, then let it sit for FIVE months! that's probably the longest a project's been put away for. I decided to pick it up again, so that I could gift it to my son's great-grandma.

I blocked it on some foam tiles in my closet.

Oh, that is outright gorgeous! Can you show it against something white or solid?  I'd love to see the detail.

That looks beautiful and I'm really upset now because I recently threw away an old set of those tiles (many missing parts) and now I see how handy they could have been.

This is beautiful! As far as letting projects sit.... well, at least you went back and finished it! I always feel guilty somehow if I start something and let it sit for too long, I'll eventually frog projects that I leave for a long time. Kudos for your perseverance, you really have an amazing finished product here!

thanks everyone! I was extremely nervous about this project. I thought about it many times since March. at one point, I actually didn't think I would want to finish. I have about 2 more projects sitting around, from a few months ago that will more than likely be frogged (they were baby things and the babies have already grown).

I finished it the night before we visited grandma, so I blocked it overnight, picked it up the next morning and took the quick shots I have. I totally didn't even think about putting it on anything solid! there are many Swallowtail Shawls out there, you can see (on flickr).

This is your first lace? WOW!!!! You did a really good job!
I've attempted this shawl MANY times and each went horribly wrong. After much crying and gnashing of the teeth, the poor thing's been packed away. I think that this has given me the courage to face my old enemy!

Lovely color choice too  Smiley

You did a great job! I love this shawl. I made one for myself last year, but a section of yarn broke during blocking.
