After my sister saw my Fourth of July quilt last month, she asked for a similar quilt for her birthday which is in a week.

I cut fat quarters into strips and sewed those together.  I used a blue sheet from IKEA to make the borders and used coordinating blue and purple floral fabric for the backing and binding.  I LOVE this purple paisley fabric -- I'm going to use some more of it to make a quilt for myself. Smiley

I don't know what brand of fabric the strips are -- I found them in fat quarter bundles at my local quilt shop.  I LOVE the bright colors and the way they coordinate with each other.

I hope my sister likes the quilt!  It turned out a little smaller than I wanted.  The size is 42 x 65 inches.  Its perfect as a lap quilt, but not quite large enough for snuggling underneath.

Here is the front:

And the back:

Plus two closeups of the fabric and binding:

Wonderful job! I love the purple paisley fabric - its subtle and interesting. The back of the quilt is just as beautiful as the front. Did you quilt it by machine or by hand?

The purple paisley fabric was from Joann's!  On sale!  I love it too.  Smiley

I machine quilted the top -- stitched in the ditch of the bright florals.  I also used Heather Bailey's binding method.  I still haven't gotten the hang of hand stitching pretty stitches, but practice makes perfect!  This quilt took about 4 hours to hand stitch the binding to the back.  The last quilt (although it was larger) took 6 hours.  I'm getting quicker!  Smiley

Thanks for the compliments!

Beautiful colors! I love funky florals. I've heard that Ikea has fabric but I've never checked it out, I guess this gives me a good reason to make a trip there. Smiley
