Jayne Cobb Hat! (with pattern)

What I like most about this edition is that it's CLEARLY from Firefly Season 5, after a lot more wear, gunsmoke, grease, and just Being Bad Guys have muted the original colors.

Actually! The colours I went for in my later hats is based on the Easter Egg on the DVD, where Adam Baldwin throws the hat on and sings the Jaynestown song. I snagged some screens:







I think I got the earflap colour right, but I'm still aiming for a brighter orange and yellow.There's an awesome yellow Lopi that's fairly new that I plan to try on the next hat(s).

Not saying darker colours are wrong though! Not in the least. I love that there are so many varieties of hats everywhere. omg. <3

In my first swap, I made a Jayne Hat in shades of pink and purple and red (by request) on the theory that Jayne's mother HAD to have knit more of those for other people in the 'verse.

I did NOT take photos. That was some hat!

Have you considered dying over the tamer Lopi colors to brighten them up?  I have never done this, but I've seen it on TV and it worked.  Maybe you could try it with kool-aid first if you don't have a whole yarn dying set-up.  (Apparently it requires a dedicated crock-pot...)

Hmmm! Interesting idea. I haven't been able to find the yellow that is advertised.

I only have one crockpot though. Decisions!

If you dye with kool-aid you can use stuff you use to prepare food because it's non-toxic.  It might be worth a try.

I've already made three of these for friends using this pattern, so I FINALLY got around to making one for myself!

The earflaps are smaller (only 12 stitches instead of 20), and I used slightly more muted colors.  The yarn is a double strand of knitpick's Andean Silk in mustard, orange, and cranberry.  It's super soft and thick.  I'll probably be wearing it for a bit at DragonCon this year provided it's not too hot. 

I think I'm going to use the leftover red and gold yarn in a Gryffindor scarf next.

Very cunning, sushi!  I've felt that Andean silk, that's gotta be one super-soft Jayne hat.  Nice job!

YES Emisanboo!

I attended my local showing this afternoon, with -five- friends of mine in Jayne hats that I knit. We had a ton of people ask us about them, it was really awesome and humbling. And watching Serenity on the big screen again was just -awesome-.

I just got back from my screening in Charlotte, and it was indeed AWESOME.  There were several in Jayne hats there, plus my donation, plus a knitter whom I helped with picking up stitches for earflaps.  Great time for knitters, great time for Browncoats in general!  I can't wait for next year!
