Thank you so much!  I have to admit the earflap part did intimidate me when I first decided to make this, but hopefully with your help and my friends I will be able to pull it off.
Can't wait to start, I'm off to buy the yarn & markers tomorrow!   Cheesy
You should come to Dragon*Con, I've gone every year since I can remember.  We can wear matching Jayne hats!  heh.

Hi!  You probably already have the stuff, and may even be wearing a cunning hat right now, but I wanted to point this out:

You don't really need to buy markers.  You can cut off a snippet of yarn in a constrasting color, tie it in a little loop, and slide it onto your needles in between stitches to mark your place.  If you need a marker you can take on and off, you could try a paper clip.

It's all about being MacGyver!  Smiley

Man, I'm sooo glad the Browncoat fever is spreading! GREAT hats, everyone.

I myself have sold 8 hats already to interested friends, and need to knit two more in anticipation for the Serenity premiere! Soooo excited.

Word of advice - if you're knitting for profit, please don't be afraid to charge for your time.  I see people selling these, only charging for materials, and in my opinion, it's not a good idea for the seller or for the craft.  It devalues your time and effort, and makes people think that hand-crafted goods are of the same worth as mass-produced crap they'd pick up in WalMart.

People new to selling often undervalue their goods, I believe from underconfidence and fear.  Having made 30 of these for sale these summer, believe me when I tell you that charging a fair price will not deter clients.

Heh, depends on the person. I charge 30 bucks CND for friends, when the yarn cost me 10. I charge non-friends 50, and they still pay up. Shocked

Agreed.  I probably won't be charging my husband.

Probably.  Wink

Has anybody seen an advance screening of the movie yet, and know if the hat is worn again?

I've seen the movie.  Sadly, he does not wear the hat....but a whole lot of people in the theater did!

Woot!  Yay Browncoats!

I'm 100% spoiler-free, even though it does mean occasionally covering my eyes and ears and going, "la la la... I'm not looking!  I'm not listening!"

I'm not 100% spoiler-free, sadly, but it was accidental. Someone replied to an email list message and sent her blurt to the whole group instead of the one person who already knew the scoop. It was vague, but still annoying.

I just finished my Jayne Cobb Cunning Hat and I love it.  I made some mistakes, but can correct them on my next hat.  Since posting an image here seems beyond me at the moment, I will say that I just posted pictures of it in alt.binaries.pictures.tv.scifi-fantasy   Grin
