Shiny hat!

I've been toying with the idea of making a brown coat, but I haven't done any sewing in a looong time... not since high school, actually.  It also doesn't have the recognizability of a Jayne hat... if people see me in a brown coat, they might think "nice coat, but she'd look better in black" ... if people see me in a Jayne hat, they'll think "Shiny, a Jayne hat!" (or, more likely, "WTH is that silly girl doing with that orange thing on her head?!")

I finished up my Jayne hat late last year and wore it everywhere, hoping that someone would say SOMETHING.   Alas, not a soul.  I did, however, get some strange sideways glances.

But, the good news is, I joined a new knitting club and one of my friends actually recognized the hat.  There is hope!  I too would love to make some of the other clothing from the show.  Over in the silkscreen part of craftster, there is a stencil for making Jayne's Blue Sun shirt. (I can't find the link for it right now, sorry..)

My Jayne Cobb hat...

The yarn store was out of orange lopi and I was in a "must knit now" mood, so I just bought some standard orange wool and double stranded it but it actually worked out really well because the lopi is itchy as all hell and the orange part is really the only part of the hat that touches my head and that just happens to be the least itchy of my yarns!

Also, no one ever says anything about this hat, but I have a fruity oaty bar tote bag and I've had two people stop me to say how cool that is.  I have enough yarn left over to make another hat and I swear I'm going to offer to knit it up for the first person who notices my tribute to Jayne!

I MUST see this Fruity Oaty Bar tote bag.  Is it DIY, or purchased?  BTW, I like your version.  Double stranding, eh - must try that.
