Being a devout Browncoat(that's a fan of the recently-cancelled sci-fi series Firefly), I saw this page and couldn't resist. So, I found myself some nice rough wool, and knit some Jayne Cobb hats for my fellow Browncoats for Christmas! Here's me modeling one that I made for myself. The hat was my first circular project and it was super easy!

(the link above also has a screenshot of the actual hat and some hats knitted by the pattern creator.)

The pattern can be found at this link:

I love Firefly.  I never saw it when they initally aired it, but heard the buzz and borrowed the season on dvd from a friend.  So sad that it only had one season on air.  Sad

Love the hat!  What brand of yarn did you use?

I saw Firefly on DVD a few months ago -- I don't think it ever aired here in Australia.  I've been wanting to make a Jayne hat ever since! Cheesy

Thanks for the comments, kids!

I made the hat out of Lopi Iclandic wool - rough, thick, virgin wool. I thought the hat would be really itchy, but it's actually quite comfortable!

And crumpet - YES make more Jayne hats!  Cheesy It is SOOOO easy to make.

Firefly is the best.  I even made myself a t-shirt that say something like "Jayne Cobb - put the me in mercinary."  I got hte pics from someone online.  You all should join the Browncoat board that univeral made.  It's like a street team.  PM me if you want details.  I don't want to start non-crafty talk here too much.

Would anyone know how to make a paper umbrella like kaylee's or any other Firefly inspired craft?

It so rocks to see so many browncoats!  Great Hat!  I made one too, but I think I need to redo the earflaps to make them more goofy.  They are too small right now.  (My Icon is actually a "browncoat me" my boyfriend drew for me)

Oh, I'm sure one could think of some more crafts from Firefly! What about attempting to knit one of Simon's sexy sweaters? Mmmmm. Kaylee's paper umbrella is a nice idea, too. *thinks*

I need to get my DVDs back from the friend I leant them to, man!  Cheesy

That is why my sister and I have a copy of the DVD set each.  I lend mine out to friends and we keep hers to watch.  My sister finished her Jayne hat last night.  It looks great.  Shocked

Have you ever made any other Joss Whedon related crafts?  Like something from Angel or Buffy?  I'm feeling very inspired.  I keep wanting to embroider a browncoat patch (like the one in the pilot), but I can't get a good enough view of it.
