I just bought a Singer 1725 machine on Craigslist (I know nothing about sewing but wanted to teach myself)

I can't thread it!  Step 7 in the instructions mentions a take-up lever... uh, is mine missing... or?

I hope i didn't get ripped off, I'm so stupid...  Angry

yeah, the take-up lever should be in that wider part on the left. just to make sure, i must ask: have you tried turning the hand-wheel? it will move the lever in an oval-shaped pattern, with it coming up from behind and out towards you then down and back (or the reverse, based on whic way you're turning it). when it's at it's lowest point, it's not very visible, so that could be the problem.
